Embodiments related to retransmission in a communication system are described and depicted. In one embodiment, a retransmission entity repeats a transmission of data transfer unit by the device after a predetermined number of other transmitted data transfer units has been transmitted. The retransmission entity may also determine whether a measure for a time period since the first transmission of the data transfer unit by the device has exceeded a predetermined threshold and to provide a final transmission of the data transfer unit based on the determining that the measure for the time period has exceeded the predetermined threshold.

One implementation may include generating at a DSL transmitter time-marker information for a data unit, storing the time-marker information at the DSL transmitter, transmitting the data unit from the DSL transmitter to a DSL receiver, transmitting a request for retransmission from the DSL receiver to the DSL transmitter, and based on the request, retransmitting the data unit including the time-marker information from the DSL transmitter to the DSL receiver.

One embodiment relates to a method of processing data in a transmitter. In the method, a timestamp is generated for a data unit. The data unit is stored in a memory unit in the transmitter. The data unit is transmitted from the transmitter to a receiver. The transmitter waits up to a predetermined time measured with respect to the timestamp to receive an acknowledgement from the receiver. Based on whether the acknowledgement is received within the predetermined time, the transmitter selectively retransmits the data unit to the receiver. Other methods and systems are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for regulating delay between network interfaces

Embodiments related to retransmission in data communication systems are described and depicted. In one embodiment, a data packet is received and separated to a plurality of data fragments. Information indicating whether a fragment of the plurality of fragments is to be protected by retransmission is provided or information indicating whether a group of fragments is to be protected by retransmission is provided. A request for retransmission from the second transceiver unit to the first transceiver unit may be generated. Based on the request, one or more identified data fragments may be retransmitted.

Retransmission in data communication systems

One embodiment relates to a method of communicating data between a transmitter and a receiver of a communication system. In this method, a payload data stream is received from a network interface layer. The payload data stream includes data units eligible for retransmission and data units non-eligible for retransmission. These data units are grouped into containers, where a container is associated with a container identifier that distinguishes the container from other containers. The containers are grouped into data transmission units, where a data transmission unit includes at least one container along with redundancy information that facilitates error detection for that data transmission unit. The data transmission units are transmitted to the receiver as a transmission data stream. Other methods and systems are also disclosed.

A preferred embodiment comprises assigning signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) margins to carriers in a multi-carrier system, comprises assigning a first SNR margin to a first data service based upon a first service characteristic, assigning a second SNR margin to a second data service based upon a second service characteristic, transmitting data associated with the first data service using the first signal-to-noise margin, and transmitting data associated with the second data service using the second signal-to-noise margin.
