A CMM has a measuring head for recording measurement values associated with an object having a plurality of geometric elements. Defined geometric elements are selected from the plurality of geometric elements and test features relating to the defined geometric elements are determined depending on demand data provided for the geometric elements. Initially, a first measurement sequence including first control commands for controlling the measuring head are determined depending on the test features. The first measurement sequence is modified before the individual measurement values are recorded in order to obtain a second measurement sequence with second control commands, which differ from the first control commands. The second control commands are used for controlling the measuring head and are selected so that the measurement results at the selected geometric elements each have a defined measurement uncertainty that is smaller, by a defined absolute value, than acceptable manufacturing tolerances for the geometric elements.

Method and device for determining actual dimensional properties of a measured object

A method is disclosed for correcting deviations in a production process of an article. Initially, measured 3D surface coordinates of a first article are obtained and used to create a virtual image of the first article that is displayed on a display apparatus that is fastened to the user's head. The virtual image is superimposed on a predefined model image of the article which is also displayed on the display apparatus to enable the user to detect any region(s) where the measured first article deviates from the predefined model. The user is then able, via a gesture (e.g., hand movement) or head movement, to select a particular region of deviation and control the desired corrective action to be performed on subsequently produced articles. The present method thereby enables the experienced user to subjectively select the region(s) requiring correction action and the degree and type of corrective action to be taken.

Method for correcting deviations in a production process of an article using a head-mounted display

The invention relates to a method for determining the co-ordinates of a workpiece (). According to said method: a first co-ordinate system, which has a fixed position in relation to the workpiece (), is defined; first co-ordinates of the workpiece () are measured using a first co-ordinate measuring device (); second co-ordinates of the workpiece () are measured using a second co-ordinate measuring device (); and a common set of co-ordinates is generated from the first co-ordinates and the second co-ordinates in the first co-ordinate system or in a second co-ordinate system, which has a fixed position in relation to the workpiece (). The method can be used in particular to determine co-ordinates of a plurality of workpieces () during and/or after the production and/or processing of the workpieces ().

Method for determining the coordinates of a workpiece

The invention is directed to a method for automatically generating travel paths to the next geometric elements to be measured when there is a collision of the probe 25 or the probe head 10, for example, with the workpiece 22. The method utilizes safety-reference surfaces (S1 to S5) placed in the form of an enclosing parallelepiped about the workpiece 22. The shortest collision-free connecting paths (P1-P2-P3) from one geometric element to the next are computed on these safety-reference surfaces.

Method of controlling a coordinate measuring apparatus

In the automated performance of multiple measurements on each of a succession of workpieces, the invention contemplates establishing a plurality of safety-reference positions (S.sub.1 to S.sub.7) along the programmed displacement path intended for the probe head (10) and its work-contacting probe pin. Any one of a variety of error signals developed in the course of conducting the measurement program on a given workpiece is operative to temporarily stop further conduct of the program and to instigate a repeated attempt to successfully traverse the part of the program in which the error signal occurred. The repeated attempt involves retracting displacement of the probe head back to the most-recently traversed safety-reference position, and if the repeated attempt produces the same error signal the probe head is returned to the most-recently traversed safety-reference position and is then caused to by-pass the error-signal part of the program by displacement to a succeeding safety-reference position, for completion of the remaining fraction of the measurement program on the given workpiece.
