The present invention relates to pulverulent solids obtainable by reaction of a metal alkyl compound of a divalent or higher-valent metal and a finely divided support which on its surface bears functional groups which can form a chemical bond between the metal atom of the metal alkyl compound and the surface of the support, wherein the particles of the finely divided support have particle diameters of less than 1000 nm and less than 5% by weight of the metal alkyl compound is extractable in a single extraction of the pulverulent solid with 20 ml of heptane per gram of solid at 50&#xb0; C. In addition, the invention relates to a process for preparing the pulverulent solids, a catalyst composition for the polymerization of olefins which comprises the pulverulent solids and polymerization processes using the catalyst composition.

Supported metal alkyl compound and process for the polymerization of olefins in its presence

A process for polymerizing one or more alpha-olefins of formula CH&#x2550;CHT wherein T is a hydrogen atom or a C&#x2013;Calkyl radical comprising the following steps: a) contacting in a continuous way one or more of said alpha olefins with a metallocene based catalyst system in a loop reactor, wherein: (i) the reaction is carried out in a liquid medium; (ii) the average residence time of the metallocene-based catalyst system is not more than 30 minutes; (iii) the temperature of the loop ranges from 25&#xb0; to 70&#xb0; C.; in order to obtain a polymerization degree ranging from 60 to 500 g per gram of catalyst system; b) feeding in continuous the prepolymerized metallocene-based catalyst system obtained in step a) into a polymerization reactor C) polymerizing one or more alpha-olefins, the same or different from the alpha olefins used in step a), in the presence of said prepolymerized metallocene-based catalyst system.

Metallocene compound and high molecular weight copolymers of propylene and olefins having two or four to thirty-two carbon atoms

The present invention relates to single- or multilayer films and one or more layers comprising at least one polyolefin molding composition containing at least one polyolefin derived from at least one olefin having at least 2 carbon atoms, of the formula R &mdash;CH&boxH;CH&mdash;R , in which R and R are identical or different and are a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched C -C -alkyl radical, or R and R , together with the atoms connecting them, form a ring or ring system, and the polyolefin has been prepared by means of metallocene catalysts. The present invention furthermore relates to a process for the production of films and layers in which a polyolefin molding composition having a particle size of from 20 &mgr;m to 5000 &mgr;m is used or prepared. The shaped polyolefin molding composition is melt-mixed with at least one additive and shaped. The melt-mixed and shaped material is melted at a temperature of from 150&deg; C. to 300&deg; C. The molten material is cooled and at the same time shaped to give a film or layer. Finally, the present invention also relates to the use of films and layers for the production of articles such as bags, composite materials and laminates.

Polyolefins with a molecular weight distribution M.sub.w /M.sub.n .gtoreq.3.0, which may be monomodal, bimodal or multimodal, can be obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of olefins with a catalyst system consisting of an aluminoxane and a transition metal component (metallocene), in which the transition metal component consists of at least one zirconocene of the formula I and at least one zirconocene of the formula Ia ##STR1## or alternatively of at least 2 zirconocenes of the formula I.

A very effective catalyst system for the polymerization or copolymerization of olefins comprises a cocatalyst, preferably an aluminoxane or a supported aluminoxane, and a metallocene of the formula I ##STR1## in which, in the preferred form, M.sup.1 in Zr or Hf, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are halogen or alkyl, R.sup.3 is alkyl, R.sup.4 to R.sup.12 are alkyl or hydrogen and R.sup.13 is a (substituted) alkylene or heteroatom bridge. The metallocenes, in particular the zirconocenes, produce polymers of very high molecular weight, in the case of prochiral monomers polymers of very high molecular weight, very high stereotacticity and very high melting point, at high catalyst activities in the industrially particularly interesting temperature range between 50 and 80.degree. C. In addition, reactor deposits are avoided by means of supported catalyst systems.

Disclosed is a catalyst system and method of polymerizing olefins, wherein the catalyst comprises a bridged metallocene of the following structure: ##STR1## wherein M.sup.1 is a transition metal of groups 4-6, R.sup.1 -R.sup.9 is hydrogen or other groups with the proviso that substituents R.sup.3 and R.sup.6 are not hydrogen, and wherein the metallocene is present in the meso form or in a mixture including both the meso and racemic forms.
