A device for the absorption of impact energy in motor vehicles is designed with a box profile section of sheet metal construction fixed in use to at least one bodywork component. In the direction of introduction of a force that is to be absorbed, the box profile section is designed with a tapered extension such that, when compressed by the force to be absorbed, the deformed material accumulates substantially inside the cross-section of the remaining deformation length of the box section profile in a manner at least approximating to a concertina.

Device for the absorption of impact energy in motor vehicles and method of making same

A transverse-member module for a front or rear end of a motor vehicle has a box-shaped flexible member from which protrude two deformation units which are spaced apart and parallel to each other and are intended for connection to a respective longitudinal member of a body-supporting structure of the motor vehicle. The flexible member is formed by two vertical profiles arranged spaced apart and parallel one behind the other in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and by at least two horizontal profiles which extend between the vertical profiles and are arranged spaced apart and parallel one above another in the vertical direction of the vehicle, the horizontal profiles being of structurally identical design.

Transverse-member module for a front or rear side end region of a motor vehicle and method of making same

A structural member has in its cross-sectional plane at least two closed hollow-section chambers which are produced by rolling forming and which are made of a single sheet metal part, the at least two hollow-section chambers being provided with at least one longitudinal seam. Between the at least two hollow-section chambers, at least one intermediate web is provided which forms one piece with the walls of the hollow-section chambers. The at least one intermediate web starts out from the intermediate seam and, on the longitudinal side facing away from the longitudinal seam, is connected with an interior side of the sheet metal part.

Structural member

A center console is raised to form a built-in box-shaped part between the backs of passenger vehicle front seats, this box shaped part serving to receive built-in devices that can be operated from the rear seats. This raised area is configured as a supporting element between backs of the front seats in such fashion that the side walls are reinforced with lightweight metal shells connected with one another by cross braces.
