A lumbar spine stretch limiter assembly for an anthropomorphic test device functions to limit the ultimate stretching of an elastic lumbar spine member during crash test simulations such as far side impact crash simulations. The lumbar spine stretch limiter assembly includes a belt assembly including one or more belts coupled to the thoracic spine and sacrum and disposed between the elastic lumbar spine member and a lumbar mounting wedge. During far side impact crash simulations, a portion of the belt assembly is brought into contact with the stretching elastic lumbar spine member to prevent further elongation of the lumbar spine member beyond a maximum allowable limit corresponding to a natural response of the lumbar spine region of a human to improve reproducibility of head excursion data and to prevent or minimize damage to the elastic lumbar spine member during far side impact crash simulations.

A system for calibrating an optical fiber measurement system is disclosed that can be used with deformable body parts of an anthropomorphic test device. The system includes a deformable body part and an optical fiber that has a plurality of grating sensors between first and second ends is supported about the deformable body part to generate optical strain data. The deformable body part is loaded into a testing fixture and a load is applied. At least one camera is positioned toward the testing fixture to record the deformable body part as the load is applied thereto and to capture images generating image deformation data for comparison with the optical strain data to determine a correlation, or correction, factor for the optical fiber and the body part.

A tool is described for separating a core, a rind and flesh of a fruit, in particular a pineapple, including, at least, a cylindrical corer which is provided at one end with a cutting edge and at the other end with a handle or other driving member, such as a motor. In the tool there is provided, close to the cutting edge of the corer at least one flesh cutter extending radially thereon and provided with at least one cutting edge, the shape of the flesh cutter being chosen such that upon rotating of the tool, it executes a helical movement with a predetermined pitch, and in that at the end of the flesh cutter, opposite the end fixed to the corer, there is provided, at least locally, a rind cutter extending parallel to the corer and provided with at least one cutting edge. Further an auxiliary screw connected with the corer may be present to at least partially determine the pitch of the tool.
