A synthetic chew toy can be formed as a composite of two different materials. The toy can be formed with a rigid synthetic frame, supporting a softer chew portion. The chew portion can include a plurality of projections, preferably having a cylindrical shape with a hemispheric end, extending outward from a base of the chew portion. Thus, the rigidity of the frame provides structure, support and durability for the chew toy, and the relatively softer chew portion can provide beneficial effects to a pets teeth and gums, or provide greater chewing pleasure.

A synthetic chew toy can be formed as a composite of two different materials. The toy can be formed with a rigid synthetic frame, supporting a softer chew portion. The chew portion can include a plurality of projections, preferably having a cylindrical shape with a hemispheric end, extending outward from a base of the chew portion. A scent insert can be housed within the frame and scent can be emitted through passageways through the chew portion and frame.

The filter can include a mechanical filter portion, followed by a fluidized bed of particles, such as sand, for removing ammonia from the water and then a chemical filter portion. The filter can be constructed in an aesthetically desirable manner and can be convenient to maintain.

A safety-buckle collar, which may also include parasitic-killing features, is a device for releasing a collar of a pet animal, such as a cat or dog, when the pet animal tries to free itself from an obstacle, such as a tree branch or fence portion, in which the collar becomes entangled. The safety-buckle collar may also include a belt member having a chemical substance for killing fleas and ticks, so that the collar is both a safety-buckle collar and a flea and tick killing collar.

The present invention is directed toward a collar for a cat, which is releasable if the collar is caught on a dangerous protrusion, such as a tree branch or fence portion, thereby preventing accidental choking of the cat. The collar includes a receptacle buckle with an interior rounded tongue snap portion engageable with a corresponding rounded forked element. The rounded forked element is adapted to receive the rounded tongue snap portion to lock the buckle in place upon the neck of the cat. The forked element of the collar is separated from the receptacle when the cat exerts above normal tensional forces upon the collar, such as when trying to free itself from an obstruction caught in the collar.

An air-operated fish feeder in which fish food is periodically deposited into an aquarium by driving a measuring cup by an air operated drive member via a gear transmission. The cup travels through a hopper containing fish food to scoop a measured amount thereof and thereafter the cup is inverted to dispense the food into the aquarium via a suitable chute.

An animal play apparatus, adapted for use with or without an animal play enclosure with towers, having one or more rotatable housings. Each of the housings has a doorway and is rotatably mounted on a bracket having two arms connected by a base which has a port therein in congruent relation to the gate when the housing is in a predetermined operative position. Each bracket is adapted for connection with said towers, whereby there is communication between the interior of the enclosure and that of the housing when the latter is in its operative position. The arms of each bracket have a releasable lock operatively engageable with the corresponding rotatable housing.
