A transmission joint portion has an envelope with an interior peripheral surface. A plurality of bearing paths are defined by bearing tracks distributed about the axis of the envelope inside the envelope. Each bearing track has a bearing path surface on one side thereof and an opposite surface facing the interior peripheral surface of the envelope. An interior space is defined between the interior peripheral surface of the envelope and the opposite surfaces of the bearing tracks. A filler material made of one of a thermosetting and a thermoplastic matrix is filled into the interior space between the interior peripheral surface and each opposite surface. The interior peripheral surface is provided with portions extending opposite the opposite surfaces of the bearing tracks, with each portion having a contour that is substantially the same as the contour of the respective opposite surface.

The transmission joint comprises a joint body (12) connected to a first shaft and defining a cavity (14) in which are formed a plurality of rolling ways (26) in each of which is received a rolling element (24) connected to a second shaft (18), and a member (30) for axially retaining the joint body (12) relative to the second shaft (18), this member (30) being elastically deformable whereby to permit the inclination of the axis of rotation (X--X) of the first shaft relative to the axis of rotation (Y--Y) of the second shaft, this member (30) constituting a sealed partition wall closing the cavity (14) on one of the sides of the latter. The cavity (14) is filled with an incompressible fluid and the member (30) is incapable of being axially deformed under the effect of the resultant of the pressure forces to which it is subjected which result from an axial biasing of one of the shafts relative to the other.

An axially fixed transmission joint (10) has a first element (16) which is connected to a first shaft (12) and carries articulation elements (22) of the transmission joint (10) which interact with complementary bearing tracks (24) formed in a second element (18) of the transmission joint (10) which is connected to a second shaft (14). The transmission joint (10) further has an axial stop member (32) connected to the first element (16) which interacts with a complementary spherical stop surface (52) formed in a sealing boot (54) of the transmission joint (10) for immobilizing the first element (16) axially in relation to the second element (18) in at least one direction of relative axial displacement. The sealing boot (54) has a first end (58) which is fastened to the second element (18) and a second end (62) which is fastened to the first shaft (12).

Articulated transmission joint (10) of the slidable type comprising a transmission joint body (12) and a tripod element (14) having three radial arms (16) each of which arms is slidable between two planar surface portions (36) through the medium of two articulation elements (18) which are pivotally mounted on a spherical trunnion (21) of the tripod element (14), each articulation element (18) defining a planar surface (20) which is cooperative with one of the planar surface portions (36). A transmission joint body (10) intended to be connected to a shaft (13) has several bearing paths for articulation elements distributed around an axis (X--X) of the body. Each bearing path comprises two fixed or movable tracks (14) arranged so as to cooperate with articulation elements of the transmission joint. Each track is constituted by a first surface (16) of a metal part (14). A second surface (18) is associated with a complementary surface (20) of the joint body (10) formed in a portion (12) of the joint body constructed of a composite material constituted by a reinforced thermosetting or thermoplastic matrix. At central longitudinal axis (ACR) of each bearing path, contained in a plane containing the axis (X--X) of the shaft (13), forms an angle (.alpha.) with the geometrical axis of the shaft.

Transmission joint body structure and a method of manufacture thereof

A transmission joint body has an envelope inside which are provided bearing paths for articulation elements of a transmission joint (10). A connection system for the joint body includes a radial flange connected to the envelope. The flange is made at least partially from a material comprising a thermosetting or thermoplastic matrix reinforced with short fibers or with particles. According to a preferred embodiment, the inner space defined radially by the inner peripheral surface of the envelope of the joint body is partially filled with a material comprising a thermosetting or thermoplastic matrix reinforced with short fibers or with particles, and which is extended outside the envelope through one axial end of the latter in order to form the flange.

Transmission joint of the sliding type

The homokinetic joint has a tripod element connected to one of two shafts to be coupled and a tulip element connected to the other of the shafts. The tripod element includes three trunnions on which are rotatively mounted rollers received in three rolling ways provided in the tulip element. An axial retaining device is provided for maintaining the axial connection of the two parts of the joint and includes an intermediate element defining a convex spherical outer surface received in a concave spherical recess provided in axial branches of the tulip element. The intermediate element has three notches for introducing the three trunnions of the tripod element into the intermediate element and a first planar surface extending perpendicular to the axis of the tripod element and cooperating with a first zone of contact confronting the tripod element. A device is provided for axially retaining the tripod element in the intermediate element. According to the invention, the three introducing notches open into an equatorial cavity in which the tripod element is movable in a direction perpendicular to its axis, the first planar surface being provided on an inner end of the cavity.
