A radiation-curable coating composition is provided comprising a 5-hydroxy or 5-alkoxy-2 (5H)-furanone compound A, and a compound B with two or more vinyl ether or vinyl ester groups, wherein the molar ratio of vinyl moieties in compound B and furanone moieties in compound A is at least 0.5, and wherein the coating composition is free of a compound with two or more acryloyl or methacryloyl groups. Also provided are a method of coating a substrate comprising applying such coating composition to a substrate and radiation-curing the coating composition to form a cured coating, and a coated substrate obtainable by such method.

There is provided a targeted bleaching composition comprising an organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalyzing bleaching of a substrate by a precursor selected from atmospheric oxygen and/or a peroxyl species. The complex is bound to a recognizing portion having a high binding affinity for stains present on fabrics.

Targeted moieties for use in bleach catalysts

The invention relates to catalytically bleaching substrates, especially laundry fabrics, with atmospheric oxygen or air. A method of bleaching a substrate is provided that comprises applying to the substrate, in an aqueous medium, a specified ligand from a selected class which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by atmospheric oxygen. Also provided is an aqueous bleaching composition substantially devoid of peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or -generating bleach system. Also provided is a method of treating a textile such as a laundry fabric whereby a complex catalyses bleaching of the textile by atmospheric oxygen after the treatment. The catalyst may be used in dry form, or in a liquor that is then dried, such as an aqueous spray-on fabric treatment fluid or a wash liquor for laundry cleaning, or a non-aqueous dry cleaning fluid or spray-on aerosol fluid. The method can confer cleaning benefits to the textile after the treatment. Also provided is a dry textile having a catalyst applied or deposited thereon, whereby bleaching by atmospheric oxygen is catalysed on the textile.

Composition and method for bleaching a substrate

A detergent bleaching composition is provided comprising a compound inclug a specified pentadentate nitrogen-containing ligand. The compound can activate hydrogen peroxide or peroxyacids and provides favourable stain removal properties, particularly in the presence or iron, manganese or copper ions. In addition, an improved stability in alkaline aqueous environment has been obtained, in particular at the peroxy compound concentrations generally present in the fabric washing liquor.

Detergent bleaching composition comprising pentadentate ligand

A bleach and oxidation catalyst is provided comprising a catalytically ace iron, manganese or copper complex including a specified pentadentate nitrogen-containing ligand. The metal complex can activate hydrogen peroxide or peroxyacids and provides favourable stain removal properties. In addition, a considerably improved stability of these metal complex compounds in alkaline aqueous environment has been obtained, in particular at the peroxy compound concentrations generally present in the fabric washing liquor.
