A basic antenna (), designed to form a radiating element of an array antenna, includes, superimposed, a planar reflector (), a probe (), and an assembly () of the EBG type by default in the form of a cavity (). The basic antenna () includes a wall enclosure () capable of reflecting the electromagnetic waves at the operating frequency or frequencies of the basic antenna (), the wall enclosure () being an extension in a direction orthogonal to the planar reflector () and simultaneously surrounding only the probe (), the cavity () and the structure (). The one- or two-dimensional array antenna includes a plurality of joined basic antennas () arranged compactly.

An antenna uses a photonic forbidden band (PFB) material in which, by default, a surface () for injecting and/or receiving electromagnetic waves in a resonance cavity of the antenna () has at least a width or a length of a diameter higher than or equal to the wavelength of the working frequency.

The invention relates to an antenna for transmitting or receiving electromagnetic waves at a working frequency f, that comprises a resonator with a filtering () coating that covers the major portion of the upper face of a reflector () located inside a cavity (), the coating () being capable of removing all the electromagnetic waves having a frequency f, and propagating in a direction parallel to the upper face of the reflector, without removing all the electromagnetic waves having a frequency fand propagating in a direction perpendicular to the upper face of the reflector.

A frequency multiband antenna includes a photonic bandgap material having at least one band gap, one single periodicity defect of the bandgap material so as to produce several narrow bandwidths within the at least one band gap of the bandgap material, and an excitation device capable of transmitting and/or receiving electromagnetic waves within the narrow bandwidths.

The excitation elements are mutually arranged so as to generate radiating spots (to) partly overlapping on one surface of the photonic bandgap material.

An omnidirectional resonant antenna in a half-plane or in the whole plane comprises a single radiating electric conductor () having at least three abutted wires (), the length of each wire and the orientation of the wires relative to one another determining the global orientation of the electric conductor. An assembly of defective PFB material elements is superposed on the reflector plane and the radiating element. Each defective PFB material element is substantially plane, parallel to the reflector, and presents at least one characteristic of magnetic permeability, of dielectric permittivity, and/or of thickness in the direction perpendicular to the reflector that differs from one defective PFB material element to another. The assembly forms a leaky resonant cavity.
