A light engine for image display projectors has a plurality of monochromatic light sources, typically red, blue and green, combined into one light generation device powered by microwaves pulsed at 3-5 KHz rates. The light engine has a microwave power supply, microwave coupling cavity, a microwave coupler coupling a microwave signal from the microwave power supply to the microwave coupling cavity, and the plurality of monochromatic light sources disposed in the microwave coupling cavity and powered by the microwave signal. The microwave coupling cavity includes a plurality of resonance points, each of the monochromatic light sources being located respectively at one of the resonance points.

A system and method for operating a dual electrode flashlamp. The method employs steps of applying an electrical potential between a pair of electrodes of the dual electrode flashlamp; and irradiating a region behind one of said electrodes with microwave energy. This invention provides methods and apparatus for continuously and efficiently separating the elements in a complex substance such as radioactive waste with a large volume plasma processor. One principal methods utilizes plasma confinement by toroidal magnetic fields with a poloidal divertor magnetic field and converts the plasma from a process plasma to a product plasma at a rapid rate permitting injection of a series of pellets, droplets or streams while the toroidal current in the plasma is maintained. A second principle method involves reducing the radiation losses in the separation process by eliminating the toroidal section and directly converting the feedstock material to a product plasma in an elongated evacuated container surrounded by magnetic field generating coils which produce magnetic fields that are parallel to the long axis of the evacuated container,The apparatus is a large volume plasma processor with multiple containment vessels. The invention provides for the characterization of waste material, and for its separation all within one self contained vacuum environment. Other applications include remediation of chemical toxic wastes and chemical and germ warfare weapons.

Method and apparatus for improving the energy efficiency for separating

This invention provides methods and apparatus for ionizing all the elements in a complex substance such as radioactive waste and for separation of some of the elements from the other elements. One principal methods utilizes plasma confinement by toroidal magnetic fields as a gate to regulate when and where specific elements are collected. While the plasma is confined, some of the species are removed by repeatedly cycling all of the species between the plasma and the deposition stages lining the walls, whereby some species preferentially accumulate on the deposition stages. The other species are then diverted into an additional containment vessel for collection or additional separations. The apparatus is a large volume plasma processor with multiple containment vessels. The invention provides for the characterization of waste material, and for its separation all within one serf contained vacuum environment. Other applications include remediation of chemical toxic wastes and chemical and germ warfare weapons.

Method and apparatus for ionizing all the elements in a complex

This invention utilizes a large volume plasma processor to completely ionize any feedstock material and deposit the ionized and unionized species of elements of the feedstock material on deposition stages. Apparatus is provided for generating a toroidal, high temperature, low density plasma in the large volume plasma processor. Key aspects of the method provide for (a) controlling temperature by rapid heating and (b) maintaining toroidal plasma current by rapid application of increased driving voltages. The invention provides a large surface area source of any desired elements to increase safety and thruput in microchip fabrication. A method for establishing a region of a high density, high energy plasma at an altitude of at least about 1500 kilometers above the earth's surface. Circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation is transmitted at a first frequency substantially parallel to an earth's magnetic field line to excite electron cyclotron resonance heating in normally occurring plasma at an altitude of at least about 250 kilometers to generate a mirror force which lifts said plasma to said altitude of at least about 1500 kilometers. Heating is continued at a second frequency to expand the plasma to the apex of said field line whereupon at least some of the plasma is trapped and oscillates between mirror points on said lines. The plasma will be contained within adjacent field lines and will drift to form a shell of relativistic particles around a portion of the earth.

An invention for supplying power to a well. In one embodiment power heats a tubing from adjacent the surface to a selected level to prevent the formation of solids. The tubing is heated by passing an electric current therethrough. In one form the tubing is insulated from the wellhead and the casing down to a selected level where an electrical connection is made between the tubing and casing. Current is applied to the tubing at a point below an insulating tubing collar. In another form an insulated conduit is run into the well to a selected depth and connected to the tubing. Electrical power is connected to the tubing and to the insulated conduit. In another form a sucker rod is electrically insulated from the tubing down to a selected depth. The sucker rod includes a non-conducting section such as a fiberglas sucker rod. A conduit is run through the fiberglas rod and connected to the steel sucker rod therebelow. Also disclosed is a system for preventing formation of solids in a petroleum well by suspending a loop of wire in a well and passing a controlled amount of power along said loop of wire to heat the wire in which the loop of wire has sections of different resistance to apply different amounts of heat at different depths of the well. Further, there is disclosed an electromagnet for use as a contact between a wire and a well tubing and/or as an anchor.

Method and system for introducing electric current into a well

A method and apparatus altering a region of plasma that lies above the earth's surface at altitudes (e.g. below 50 kilometer) where the collison rate of the electrons in the plasma is originally greater than the cyclotron frequency of the electrons. First, artificial magnetic lines of force are established from the earth's surface by positioning a loop of cable at the earth's surface. An electrical current of sufficient amperage is passed through the cable which inherently generates the artificial magnetic field from the center of the loop. The field strength B on the artificial lines in the region of plasma to be altered is sufficient to increase the cyclotron frequency of the electrons in the plasma so that it will exceed the rate of collosion of the electrons. The plasma is then excited by electron cyclotron resonance heating to thereby further alter the plasma by transmitting circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation upward in a direction substantially parallel to and along the artificial field lines.

Method and apparatus for creating an artificial electron cyclotron

A method and apparatus for altering at least one selected region which normally exists above the earth's surface. The region is excited by electron cyclotron resonance heating to thereby increase its charged particle density. In one embodiment, circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation is transmitted upward in a direction substantially parallel to and along a field line which extends through the region of plasma to be altered. The radiation is transmitted at a frequency which excites electron cyclotron resonance to heat and accelerate the charged particles. This increase in energy can cause ionization of neutral particles which are then absorbed as part of the region thereby increasing the charged particle density of the region.

The tubing of a cased petroleum well is heated for any purpose such as to prevent deposition of solids by coupling a microwave source to the well annulus at the surface and transmitting the waves down the annulus. Special coupling means is provided to couple at the annulus to accommodate the arbitrary positions of naturally occurring microwaves in the annulus of the well.
