A method and apparatus for initiating feed of yarn on a machine for taking yarn from a supply, processing it and rewinding it. A short length of processed yarn is led back through a series of guide wires to a vacuum receiver for holding the free end of the yarn. The wire guides are actuated to form a large loop so that the processed yarn will be fed over the input roller and the output roller, so as to pick up yarn from the supply. The lower roller of the feed roller assembly is elongated to aid in the looping and lateral in-feeding of the processed yarn loop. The previously processed yarn, after it is fed around the input and output rollers and has picked up the additional yarn to be processed is pulled from the vacuum retaining system and incorporated in the processed yarn.

Apparatus for initiating the feed of yarn in a yarn processing machine

Several yarn packages or yarn reels are simultaneously wound on the same spindle using an improved process and apparatus, especially with regard to the start-up of the winding including the attachment of the yarns to the spindle and the formation of a yarn transfer end. Means are provided for engaging and disengaging the yarns from yarn reciprocating distribution guides which lay down the yarns on the rotating yarn reel. The same means in the form of a guide ramp guides the yarns from a common hooking point attaching the yarns to the spindle and then disengages from the yarns so that the yarns will be contacted for reciprocation over the main winding zone of the yarn reel by the reciprocating distribution guides. Movable positioning guides for each of the yarns are located upstream of the reciprocating distribution guides and adjust the position of the yarns to be wound from the main winding zone to an attachment zone, the latter being used to form a transfer end from which one reel can be connected to another. The movements of the guide ramp and positioning guides are controlled in synchronization with each other. The invention is especially useful in an automatic high speed winding process for continuous synthetic or other chemical yarns and associated apparatus.

The invention relates to a process and a device for the winding-up of textile yarn. The process includes winding-up by double drive, namely peripheral and axial drive, according to which, in a first phase, the torque supplied by the axial drive is decreased progressively to zero, and in a second phase, the rotation of the take-up package is effected by the single peripheral drive. Preferably, the device used is a gas turbine, the inlet pipe to which is progressively obstructed. The invention applies to winding-up of chemical textile yarns.
