A mechanized orifice fitting mechanism is provided having a body structure forming an internal chamber and an access opening that is closed by means of a quick disconnect closure. Internally of the body is provided a cam actuated orifice plate ejector and sealing plate which is movable to control positioning of a removable orifice plate in relation to a flow passage extending through the body. Mechanically energized sealing elements are adapted to seal either the orifice plate or the ejector plate and thus permit depressurization of the body to permit insertion and removal of the orifice plate without depressurizing the flow line to which the mechanized orifice fitting is connected.

A valve actuator mechanism for a lift-turn type valve having a valve element that is operated by first linear unseating movement, rotational repositioning movement and linear reseating movement. First and second actuator stems are supported by an actuator housing for both linear and rotational movement. A movement translation mechanism is interconnected between the first and second actuator stems and functions to translate an initial component of linear movement of the second actuator stem in one direction into an initial component of movement of the first actuator stem in said one direction to unseat said valve element, translating an intermediate component of linear and rotary movement of said second actuator stem in said one direction into an intermediate rotary movement of said first actuator stem to rotate and reposition said valve element and translating a terminal component of linear movement of said second actuator stem in said one direction into a terminal linear component of movement of said first actuator stem in an opposite direction to reseat said valve element.

Valve actuator mechanism for lift-turn type valves

A compression spring capsule is provided for tubular valve actuating members and incorporates a plurality of helical compression springs arranged in circular relation. Opposed generally cylindrical spring retainers each being receivable in a cylindrical receptacle form opposed receptacles receiving opposed ends of the springs. Spring guide rods are disposed within each of the helical springs with the ends thereof received within the opposed receptacles of the spring retainers.

A safety valve for the production tubing of wells and/or fluid flow lines includes a valve element having both linear and rotary components of movement within a valve body and is actuated by a lost-motion rack and pinion gear actuating mechanism. The clam-shell pinion gear is moved linearly within the valve body by a hydraulic sleeve piston actuator for inducing valve movement responsive to hydraulic control of the sleeve piston. The sleeve piston is also responsive to upstream pressure for pressure actuation of the valve to its closed position. The valve element is also mechanically movable to its closed position. To facilitate opening movement of the valve, after an initial part of the opening movement of the sleeve piston assembly has occurred, pressure upstream of the valve element is communicated with the downstream side of the valve element, thus balancing pressure across the valve element and dissipating any pressure induced resultant forces that oppose valve opening movement. A lost-motion, spring biased sleeve piston interconnection between upper and lower piston sleeve sections is constructed to allow collapsing of the piston sleeve assembly but restrains separation of the sleeve sections. The sleeve interconnection also protects piston springs from torque forces during rotation of the piston sleeve.

Pressure balanced safety valve for wells and flow lines

An actuatable safety valve for the production tubing of wells and/or fluid flowlines includes a valve element having both linear and rotary components of movement within a valve body and is actuated by a lost-motion rack and pinion gear actuating mechanism. The clam-shell pinion gear is moved linearly within the valve body by a hydraulic sleeve piston actuator for causing control valve movement responsive to hydraulic control of the sleeve piston. The sleeve piston is also responsive to upstream pressure for pressure actuation of the valve to its closed position. The valve element is also mechanically movable to its closed position.

Actuatable safety valve for wells and flowlines

A flow meter for measuring the volume of flowing fluid through a conduit is provided with a self-centering rotor assembly that becomes precisely centered within a flow chamber of the flow meter upon assembly of the flow meter construction. Rotor support means may be provided having cam surfaces defined thereon, which cam surfaces have cooperative camming engagement with appropriate surfaces formed on the rotor assembly and are adjusted during assembly of the rotor mechanism to accomplish centering of the rotor mechanism within the housing structure and to establish tight frictional engagement with the inner wall structure of the housing to positively lock the rotor assembly in its centered position within the flow chamber.

Flow meter having self-centering rotor assembly

In one exemplar embodiment, an apparatus for impressing identifying characters into the end face of metal bar stock is disclosed. A stamping apparatus operates in conjunction with conventional bar stock drawing and cutting machines. The stamping apparatus has a die positioning member adapted for pivotal movement carrying a character imprinting die that is extended and locked in the path of the moving bar stock. The force of the bar stock moving against the die imprints the identifying characters in the end face of the bar stock. Just prior to cutting of the bolt blank from the bar stock the cutting machine signals the bolt stamping apparatus and the die positioning member begins to pivot and retract into the apparatus housing thereby relieving the pressure between the end face of the bar stock and the die. The die positioning member continues to pivot into the housing as the cutting machine cuts the bolt blank from the bar stock and allows the bolt blank to fall free for collection. The bar stock is advanced again and the die positioned to repeat the imprinting process on the next bolt blank.
