A safety razor blade unit has two or more blades () with parallel cutting edges () mounted in a frame () between guard and cap surfaces so that the average inter-blade span is not greater than 1.25 mm, and the wash through index, a measure of the rinsability obtained by a method defined in the specification, is not less than 0.20. The combination of narrow inter-blade spans and good rinsability enables enhanced comfort levels during shaving to be achieved.

Safety razors

A guard of a safety razor blade unit has a lubricating strip () disposed in front of a backstop (), and the edge of the backstop which contacts the skin during shaving is castellated to define channels () separated by lands (). The channels () enable an effective layer of lubricant to remain on the skin until the blade positioned to the rear of the backstop contacts the skin in the course of a shaving stroke.

In a safety razor blade unit a skin engaging member has a surface for contacting the skin during shaving defined by spaced hollow projections ( ) which extend upwardly from a base ( ) and are open at their upper ends. The projections are made of a resiliently flexible material and are preferably arranged in rows along the base. The projections are preferably tubular but can taper in either direction, internally and/or externally.

Razor blade unit

A safety razor blade unit having at least one blade with a cutting edge which is moved across the surface of the skin being shaved by a handle to which the blade unit is attached. The blade unit may be mounted detachably on the handle. The razor blade unit has a guard which defines a surface for contacting the skin in front of the blade and a cap for contacting the skin behind the blade. The skin engaging portion of the guard has spaced projections extending upwardly from a base and formed of a resiliently flexible material. At least some of the projections have cross-sections with concave sides defining a recess opening.

A safety razor blade unit has a guard (,), a cap (,) and three parallel blades (,) mounted between the guard and cap, at least one of the blades, guard and cap being movable from an at rest (non-shaving) position to modify a blade exposure dimension to attain a target blade geometry, at which shaving is initiated, in which the exposure of the first blade (,) is not greater than zero and the exposure of the third blade (,) is not less than zero. At least one of the cap (,) and guard (,) can be movable against the force of a spring (,or,) from an at rest position in which all the blades between the guard and cap have their cutting edges disposed below a plane tangential to the skin contacting surfaces of the guard and cap. A safety razor blade unit including a guard, a cap, and a group of first, second, and third blades with parallel sharpened edges located between the guard and cap, the blades being resiliently movably mounted and having an at rest condition in which the first blade defines a blade edge nearest the guard having a negative exposure between about &minus;0.04 mm and about &minus;0.06 mm, the third blade defines a blade edge nearest the cap having a positive exposure between about &plus;0.04 mm and about &plus;0.06 mm, and the second blade defines a blade edge having an exposure of about zero.

A safety razor blade unit including a guard, a cap, and a group of three blades with parallel sharpened edges located between the guard and cap, the first blade defining a blade edge nearest the guard having a negative exposure not less than &minus;0.2 mm, and the third blade defining a blade edge nearest the cap having a positive exposure of not greater than &plus;0.2 mm, the second blade defining a blade edge having an exposure not less than the exposure of the first blade and not greater than the exposure of the third blade.
