A method for producing a lube basestock from a waxy feed is disclosed in which a feed containing to 50 wt % or more of wax is hydrotreated and stripped to lower the nitrogen and sulfur content of the feed. The feed is then hydroisomerized under conditions to 370&deg; C. hydrocatalytically dewaxed with a catalyst comprising a mixture of a catalytically active metal on a zeolite dewaxing catalyst and an amorphous catalyst, or alternatively is solvent dewaxed and then hydrocatalytically dewaxed with the just described catalyst.

The present invention is a process for producing a distillate fuel heavier than gasoline. The process is a Fischer-Tropsch (hydrocarbon synthesis) process that includes using,C NMR to measure cetane number and a cold flow property in order to optimize the process. The removal of metals, especially vanadium, from spent hydrofining catalyst is accomplished by a two-step process. Treatment with a gaseous sulfur-containing reagent brings the metals to the surface of the catalyst and converts them to sulfides, which are then efficiently removed by contact with a heteropoly acid such as molybdophosphoric acid. Treatment of deactivated hydrodesulfurization catalysts such as Co-Mo supported on alumina by this process results in substantially complete regeneration of catalytic activity.

Novel solid electrolyte compositions and novel electrochemical cells utilizing the novel electrolyte compositions are disclosed.
