This disclosure relates to aromatic ester plasticizers, including methyl biphenyl carboxylic acid esters of alcohols having an average carbon number ranging from 9.0 to 9.4 and a degree of branching of 3.0 or less, preferably 2.2 or less, to mixtures of such plasticizers, to compositions comprising the plasticizers and to thermoplastic polymer, such as polyvinylchloride, that contains the plasticizers.

Plasticizers production and use

Provided are mixtures of 1) compounds of the formula: wherein Ris a saturated or unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon optionally substituted with an alkyl and/or an OXO-ester, and Ris a Cto Chydrocarbyl; and 2) one or more second plasticizers selected from the group consisting of alkyl terephthalates, alkyl phthalates, alkyl benzoate esters, di-benzoate esters, esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids, and dialkyl adipates. Also provided are plasticized polymer compositions containing said mixtures.

Plasticizer blends and use thereof

The present invention provides a process for preparing an overbased barium complex and an overbased barium complex prepared thereby. The process includes the steps of: heating a mixture of barium hydroxide monohydrate and an isomeric mixture of from about C to about C alcohols in the presence of a solvent, thereby producing a first mixture; contacting the first mixture and an isomeric mixture of from about C to about C branched carboxylic acids, thereby producing a second mixture which includes unreacted barium hydroxide; and contacting the second mixture and carbon dioxide, thereby producing the overbased barium complex. The overbased barium complex of the present invention is useful in the stabilization of halogen-containing polymers.
