A scanning assembly for a detection system for a vehicle includes a base, a first and second flexible sheet, and a scanning fixture with a mirror. The scanning fixture is connected to the base via the first flexible sheet and the second flexible sheet. Oscillation of the scanning assembly around a first central axis of the scanning fixture causes each flexible sheet to flex along a length of a plane of said sheet. Oscillation of the scanning assembly around a second central axis of the scanning fixture causes each flexible sheet to flex in torsion along the length of the plane of the sheet.

Scanning assembly for a detection system

A LiDAR system and method of detecting objects using same includes a plurality of coaxially arranged LiDAR transmitters and detectors. A movable optical element redirects optical signals between the LiDAR transmitters and an external region and reference optical element. The detectors receive returning optical signals after they have deflected off objects in the surrounding environment to generate an electrical signal. A reference signal is generated from the optical signals directed towards the reference optical element. The system determines the position of an object in the external region by adjusting the electrical signal using the reference signal.

Scanning LiDAR system and method with compensation for transmit laser pulse effects

A detection system for a vehicle in an environment includes at least one reflective member having a rotational axis and a plurality of reflective sides. Each of the reflective sides slopes towards the rotational axis at a slope angle different than the slope angle of at least one of the others of the reflective sides. The system includes a plurality of LiDAR systems with at least one light transmitter and at least one light receiver, each LiDAR system interacting with a different one of the reflective sides to scan the environment.

Detection system with reflective member illuminated from multiple sides

A scanning assembly for a detection system for a vehicle has a scanning fixture including a first mirror. The scanning fixture is attached to a first pivot. A reflective surface of the first mirror provides a first field of view between the detection system and a surrounding environment. A central member has a first end attached to the first pivot and a second end attached to a second pivot to couple the first pivot to the second pivot. A base is configured to attach the scanning assembly to the vehicle. The base is further attached to the second pivot. The scanning fixture is coupled to the base exclusively through attachment of the first pivot to the second pivot via the central member, the second pivot in turn being attached to the base.

A detection system for a vehicle in an environment includes a lens within an aperture. A line camera is configured to receive light passing through the lens from the environment to generate image data. A LiDAR system is configured to transmit light through the lens to the environment and receive light passing through the lens from the environment to generate range data.

Multifunction vehicle detection system

An apparatus includes a camera lens assembly and a printed circuit board attached to said camera lens assembly. The camera lens assembly may be configured to provide a forward view through a windshield of a vehicle. The printed circuit board generally comprises an antenna, a ground plane, and an image sensor. The antenna is generally disposed on a front surface of the printed circuit board. The ground plane may be disposed either on the front surface or within a layer of the printed circuit board. The image sensor is generally mounted on a back surface of the printed circuit board. The camera lens assembly is generally configured to focus an image of the forward view through the windshield on the image sensor.

Integrated camera and communication antenna

A molded lens assembly includes a cover and at least four molded elongated features. The cover may have a substantially planar portion and side portions extending away perpendicularly at a periphery of the substantially planar portion and defining an inner surface of the substantially planar portion. The at least four molded elongated features generally extend away from the inner surface of the substantially planar portion and are arranged such that a long axis of each of the molded elongated features is aligned with a side of a polygon having a number of sides equal to the number of molded elongated features. Each molded elongated feature generally includes a first convex lens portion at a first end and a second convex lens portion at a second end.

Lens for integrated rain sensor and antenna

A radar system and method with reduced multipath effects include a first component of a radar sensor module on which at least one antenna element is formed, the at least one antenna element having a surface at which radar radiation is received or transmitted, the at least one antenna element having a radiation aperture. A second component in proximity to the antenna element such that a portion of the radar radiation impinges on the second component comprises an angled surface forming an angle with the surface of the antenna element. The angled surface of the second component comprises a texture such that when the portion of the radiation impinges on the angled surface, the amount of multipath signal propagating through the radiation aperture of the antenna element is reduced.

Apparatus and method for mitigating multipath effects and improving absorption of an automotive radar module

An automobile radar module and method include a PCB having a first side on which RF electronic components are mounted and a second side on which digital electronic components are mounted. An EMI shield is mounted over the first side of the PCB, and a radome is mounted over the EMI shield. The EMI shield comprises an aperture exposing RF components on the first side of the PCB. The radome comprises a protrusion which protrudes into the aperture in the EMI shield. The protrusion and sidewalls of the aperture define a shielded region above the RF components on the first side of the PCB. The sidewalls extend at an acute angle with respect to a plane of the primary surface of the EMI shield, the acute angle being selected based on operational parameters of the radar module such that a predetermined shielding performance is realized.

Compact shielded automotive radar module and method

An apparatus includes a lens assembly and a printed circuit board. The lens assembly may be configured to provide at least four orthogonal optical paths and a central atrium. The printed circuit board may be disposed below the lens assembly and generally comprises an antenna and ground plane on a front surface of the printed circuit board, and a first emitter, a second emitter, a first detector and a second detector mounted on the printed circuit board. The antenna is generally aligned with the central atrium. The first emitter is generally located between a first pair of the four orthogonal optical paths. The second emitter is generally located between a second pair of the four orthogonal optical paths. The first detector is generally located between a third pair of the four orthogonal optical paths. The second detector is generally located between a fourth pair of the four orthogonal optical paths.

Integrated light/rain sensor and communication antenna

A misalignment detection sensor assembly is provided, which includes a forward-looking sensor having a sensing direction along a first axis and an inertia sensor configured to sense acceleration along a second axis, the second axis having a fixed relationship with respect to the first axis. A misalignment detection system uses the misalignment detection sensor assembly and a signal processing system to calculate a misalignment angle between the first axis and the direction of forward motion of the sensor assembly. A method of detecting angular misalignment of a forward-looking sensor assembly is also disclosed, which includes measuring acceleration along an axis having a fixed relationship with respect to the sensing axis of the forward-looking sensor assembly and comparing the acceleration measurement with a predetermined threshold.

Sensing misalignment detection and estimation system

A range discriminating optical sensor for use in a vehicle safety system is provided. The range discriminating sensor is designed to create a small depth of field such that objects at a range outside of the depth of field are eliminated from the image. Generally, the optical sensor uses a large aperture to limit the depth of field. An electronic imaging element is used to detect the image projected by the lens. The electronic imaging element may have a small pixel size which further reduces the depth of field. A signal processor can be used to determine the distance from the image sensor with objects with the selected depth of field appearing in focus and those outside of the depth of field appearing out of focus.
