Making a tire mold having a plurality of complete tire mold segments ( ) of epoxy resin mold material formed in the chambers ( ) of segmental shoes ( ) and having reinforced stand alone ribs ( ) formed in recesses in the tread models mounted in the shoes. The shoes ( ) and models ( ) are reusable and have standard shoe split diameters and chord lengths to reduce the time necessary to make the molds. Article and method for composite tire mold blades

Molds for injection molding tire components have controlled temperature passages leading to a manifold surrounding each mold cavity. The manifold is positioned to minimize weld lines in the injected tire component. In addition, a narrow gate opening between the manifold and mold cavity provides an elevated temperature of the injected material for decreasing the curing time of the tire component in the mold. Blade members may support and position tire components such as bead apex assemblies in the mold. These tire components may be unloaded by an unloader ring in communication with a source of vacuum for pulling the tire component out of the mold.

Injection molding of a tire component

An apparatus for providing a vacuum in a segmented tire mold includes an upper sidewall assembly and lower sidewall assembly, a plurality of radially moveable tread mold segments operable with the upper sidewall assembly and lower sidewall assembly to define a tire mold cavity. A conical actuating ring assembly surrounds the tire mold segments and engages the mold segments to provide radial movement of the mold segments. The apparatus includes a first seal between the conical actuating ring assembly and the lower mold assembly, as well as a second seal between the conical actuating ring and the upper sidewall assembly, thereby sealing the space defined by the tire mold so that a vacuum can be drawn on the tire mold cavity upon the closing of the mold.

Ventless segmented tire mold and method therefore

A mold for forming elastomeric articles and the like, has vent plugs inserted in bores through the body of the mold. The vent plugs may be manufactured of sintered metal. Each vent plug has a bore therethrough that is significantly smaller than the bore through the mold body, so that very little, if any, of the elastomeric substance being formed in the mold flows into the bore of the vent plug.
