An implant system includes an implant and a stabilizer, which includes a manipulation portion for handling and locating the stabilizer, a main body comprising a manipulation channel, and a transverse channel for connecting the stabilizer and an implant, the transverse channel having an axis perpendicular to an axis of the manipulation channel. The implant includes a thread and the transverse channel includes threads for engaging the threads. The system further includes a jig fixture having a first arm and a second arm responsive to a manipulator; the first arm engages the manipulation portion, the second arm for engages the manipulation channel.

A locking cap for dental implants embedded in hard dental tissue, such as tooth stubs or bones. The locking caps are ovoidal in plan view and may be formed of materials, such as non-adherent polymers, that are rigid, but softer than the material of the dental implant.

Components for permanent removable and adjustable dentures and bridges

A dental prosthesis foundation capable of being finished or adjusted or repaired and which may be assembled and adjusted to variable jaw ridge sizes, and formed with self-curing hardened resins. The foundation supports prosthetic teeth and is permanently but removably secured to the jaw by implants embedded in hard dental tissue, such as tooth stubs or bones. The dentures can be readily repaired or adjusted for changes in the jaw of the patient, by chairside techniques available to dentists. The foundation can also be adjusted to changes in size and shape of ridges in the jawbones for more comfortable use of the dentures secured on such prostheses, by utilizing spheroidal or ovoidal locking caps preferably initially formed of non-adherent polymers.

A chairside prosthesis includes modular components which may be assembled and adjusted to variable ridge sizes, and held together in position with self-curing hardened resin. Such modular components are secured in the bones of the mouth in a relatively short time, which may be adjusted at a later date, and which are adaptable to variations in size and shape of ridges in the bones for more comfortable use of the dentures secured on such prostheses.

In a dental hand-piece, a sleeve connected to a dental tool reciprocates in a head. A fixed protrusion from the head engages a groove on the moving sleeve. The groove has portions that are transverse to the axis of reciprocation causing the sleeve to oscillate about the axis during reciprocation.

A module useful for forming a foundation for a dental prosthesis, the module including at least one each of (a) a post and (b) an extension unit, the post having a threaded end adapted to anchor the post into rigid dental materials such as tooth stubs or bone matrix, and a second retaining end for engaging the extension unit. The extension unit comprises an engaging end to engage the retaining end of the post, and one or two leaves extending from the engaging end transversely from the post. The engaging end is so sized and shaped as to maintain a sloppy fit with the retaining end of the post. The sloppy fit permits a minor, constrained degree of rotation of the extension unit with respect to the post. At least two such modules can be used to form the foundation for a rigid prosthetic dental bridge; at least one of the extending leaves on each module is so formed as to be capable of coupling with one of the extending leaves on a second such module. A pair of coupled such modules forms a prosthetic foundation in the mouth.

Prosthetic dental bridge foundation

An implant body has a non-round cross sectional shape, for example, ovoidal or rectangular. Lateral surfaces of the implant include threaded portions of a circular cylinder such that the implant, although non-round in cross section, can threadably engage a tapped circular opening in the jawbone leaving lateral spaces. Bone grows into the spaces between implant and the jawbone socket. The implant is shaped similarly to the root structure of a natural tooth and can be oriented, about its longitudinal axis, at any angle relative to the general curvature of the jawbone where the implant is seated. A more natural appearance of the mouth is achieved; prosthetic teeth may be positioned closer together without loss of strength between the implant and the jawbone. A non-round cross section of an implant opening receives an abutment post of corresponding cross section to prevent rotation of the abutment relative to the implant. A cemented connection prevents axial displacement between the abutment and implant. No screws are used in the prosthesis.

Dental implant system

A dental implement designed to be retained for reciprocating-movement by the sleeve member of a dental handpiece. The dental implement is comprised of a flat dental tool having a flat blade portion and a flat shank portion. The flat blade portion can also be formed with a triangular or arcuate cross-section while retaining the flat shank portion and the blade edges can be straight or have a saw-tooth configuration. A removable tool holder has a slot to receive the dental tool and a outside cylindrical shape complementary with the bore of the sleeve member. Forces applied to the tool holder control the displacement of locking protrusions on the tool shank to selectively permit the tool to be driven in a reciprocating movement with or without rotation and to be removed entirely from the sleeve member.

A dental post having a support frame captured and interlocked thereon, and encaptured in a luting material, preferably such as a moldable self-curing tooth-colored composite material to create a laminated composite/metal foundation complex for retaining a dental rstoration securely on a tooth stub. The post includes a smooth cone-shape lower end portion for matchingly fitting into a prepared tooth canal, a threaded portion passively fitting in the tooth canal for engagement with the composite material, an unthreaded portion to provide greater strength, a square portion to permit the dental post to be unscrewed from the hardened composite material, a tapered portion, and a chisel-like portion at the upper end of the dental post. The support frame includes a pair of opposing legs for straddling the dental post and a bight portion connecting the legs together, the bight portion having a slot for receiving the chisel-like portion therethrough, a pair of pads extending transversely outwardly from the lower ends of the legs for seating in steps formed in the tooth stub, elongated slots formed in the legs to receive the composite material therethrough and to permit the bifurcated leg portions to be twisted to reinforce the structure of the legs. The chisel-like portion is inserted through the slot in the bight portion, and then turned 90 degrees to capture and interlock the dental post and the support frame together.

The invention provides a tubular dental mold form with at least one scalloped end and a method, utilizing the form, for forming a universal crown in situ on a tooth stump. In a preferred form, scalloped edges, of different depths, are formed at both ends and are circumferentially offset on one end with respect to the other end.

There is provided a procedure to maintain an otherwise whole tooth, from which the nerve has been removed by carrying out a procedure which includes inserting a thin flexible post, preferably formed of a light-transmitting, physiologically inert material, to the full depth of a prepared relatively narrow tooth nerve canal, which has previously been sealed at its bottom with gutta percha. The post is permitted to abut against the gutta percha. The post is then surrounded by a film of a composite-filler or sealant, which is preferably light-curable, coating the post while supporting and sealing the walls of the canal. The post is sufficiently flexible as to be able to follow the curvature of the canal, which may retain a slight natural curvature. The composite filler or sealant is then cured, preferably by an optical radiation carried through the preferably transparent post. In one embodiment the light-curing post is removable after the sealant has been at least partially cured. There is also provided a post formed of a light-transmitting flexible material, the post comprising a substantially cylindrical shank portion and an inwardly tapering, or convergent, first end.

Light-curable tooth reinforcement

This invention provides a self-powered dental hygiene device having an outer housing with three sections, a battery section at one end, an intermediate electric motor section and at the second end a transmission section with a head end section at the distal end. The head end section includes an aperture extending fully therethrough so as to be open at both ends, transverse to the transmission section and designed to hold from either end a replaceable dental bit designed for reciprocating longitudinal motion. The casing is shaped such that the first battery section extends at an angle of between 7 and 12 degrees relative to the transmission section, and the aperture is preferably perpendicular to the axis of the transmission section. The dental tool bit held within either end of the aperture has a hollow plenum for containing a fluid to be administered during use and a pressurizing means is secured to the tool to provide for the expression of the fluid through openings in the tool blade. There is also provided means to resiliently restrain the dental tool bit from rotating relative to the tool.
