Techniques for fracturing a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore are provided. The subterranean formation has vertical and horizontal stresses applied thereto. The wellbore has a near wellbore stress zone thereabout. The method involves drilling the wellbore along a drilling path (the wellbore having a vertical portion and a horizontal portion), creating at least one 360-degree perforation in the subterranean formation about the horizontal portions of the wellbore, and fracturing the formation by injecting a fluid into the 360-degree perforations. The 360-degree perforations extend about the wellbore a distance beyond the near wellbore stress zone and at least twice a diameter of the wellbore starting from an axis of the wellbore. A direction of the 360-degree perforation is transverse to the wellbore axis.

Method for transverse fracturing of a subterranean formation

An efficient and cost-effective technique is provided to perform modeling of a reservoir in a subterranean structure. A compartment model of fluid compartments in a reservoir is generated, and based on the compartment model and a geomechanical model of the subterranean structure, movement of a ground surface due to volumetric change of the compartments is calculated. Satellite measurements of the ground surface are received over time, where the received satellite measurements of the ground surface over time indicate movement of the ground surface. The movement of the ground surface indicated by the received satellite measurements is compared with the calculated movement, and based on the comparing, one or more properties of the geomechanical model are adjusted.

Modeling a reservoir using a compartment model and a geomechanical model

The invention relates to a method and to a tool for treating at least one wall in a critical zone of a borehole, in particular a borehole for development of a hydrocarbon, water, gas or analogous field, the method consisting in reinforcing the wall of the critical zone by a coating obtained from a base fluid which is pumped from the surface to a tool ( ) to be projected against the wall of the critical zone where it forms the coating once it has set, the method being characterized in that it consists in storing at least one additive or activator in liquid form in a reservoir (R) of the tool ( ), and in projecting the additive simultaneously with the base fluid against the wall of the critical zone via at least one injector (I) in order to activate setting of the base fluid.

Method and a tool for treating the wall of a critical zone in a borehole

The invention provides a method of isolating an open hole fitted with a slotted liner, the method consisting in pumping a cement or a resin to the level of the slotted liner by means of injection apparatus provided with lips for scrapping the slotted liner downstream from the injection point so that the cement or resin fills the entire borehole upstream from the injection apparatus and also fills the space behind the slotted liner while the apparatus is being raised towards the surface. The invention also provides injection apparatus particularly adapted to implement the method, which apparatus can advantageously be displaced by means of coiled tubing.

Method and apparatus for completing a well for producing hydrocarbons or the like

The invention relates to an expandable liner for completing a hole in an underground formation, the liner being constituted by a spiral-wound strip with the longitudinal edges of the strip having complementary touching profiles so that after it has been expanded, the liner is circular in section. The invention also provides a method of completing a well finally or temporarily by installing a spiral-wound liner of the invention, expanding it, and optionally cementing it.
