An invention that relates to streamers is described. These streamers contain one or more streamer sections. These sections can have sensors, channels, and/or analogue arrays of sensors are disposed along its length. At least one of these streamer sections has a variable density of sensors, channels, and/or analogue arrays along the length.

Macro compressed sensing data acquisition

Various implementations directed to quality control and preconditioning of seismic data are provided. In one implementation, a method may include receiving particle motion data from particle motion sensors disposed on seismic streamers. The method may also include performing quality control (QC) processing on the particle motion data. The method may further include performing preconditioning processing on the QC-processed particle motion data. The method may additionally include attenuating noise in the preconditioning-processed particle motion data.

Quality control and preconditioning of seismic data

A technique includes using a filter having filtering parameters based at least in part on a dispersion curve of at least one vibration mode of a streamer to filter a measurement acquired by at least one sensor of the streamer and using results of the filtering to suppress vibration noise present in the measurement.

Removing noise from a seismic measurement

A technique includes spatially filtering a signal that is derived from a seismic acquisition. The filtering is associated with a filter length, and the filtering includes varying the filter length with frequency. The filtering may be used in connection with adaptive noise attenuation, which is applied to decomposed subbands. Furthermore, the filtering may be applied during the reconstruction of the signal from the subbands.

A technique includes decomposing a signal that is derived from a seismic acquisition into a plurality of signals such that each signal is associated with a different frequency band. For each signal of the plurality of signals, the technique includes performing the following: decomposing the signal into subbands in successive stages, where the subbands are associated with at least different frequency ranges of the signal; selectively applying adaptive noise attenuation in between the successive stages such that the stages decompose noise-attenuated subbands; and reconstructing the signal from the subbands resulting from the decomposition. The technique includes combining the reconstructed signals.

A technique includes receiving seismic data acquired by seismic sensors; and processing the seismic data on a machine to deghost the data. The processing includes deghosting the seismic data using a first deghosting technique that relies on a ghost model; deghosting the seismic data using a second deghosting technique that is independent from any modeling of the ghost; and selectively combining the results of the deghosting using the first and second deghosting techniques.

Deghosting seismic data

A method for processing seismic data. The method may include (1) receiving seismic data acquired by an iseismic sensor of a plurality of seismic sensors and (2) determining an ivalue to represent an ipower spectral density curve that corresponds to the seismic data. The method may then repeat steps (1)-(2) for each seismic sensor. The method may then include generating an expected value curve based on the ivalue for each power spectral density curve. The method may then compare each ivalue to the expected value curve and identify invalid seismic sensors based on the comparison. After identifying the invalid seismic sensors, the method may process the seismic data without seismic data acquired by the invalid seismic sensors to determine one or more locations of hydrocarbon deposits in subterranean geological formations.

Identifying invalid seismic data

To calibrate an accelerometer, a seismic cable that carries the accelerometer is rotated. Data measured by the accelerometer as the seismic cable is rotated is received, and at least one calibration parameter according to the received data is computed. The at least one calibration parameter is for use in calibrating the accelerometer.
