A core intended to be used as a support for a roll of paper, especially toilet paper, is formed by winding at least one strip made of tissue, the strip being impregnated, at least locally, with starch so as to improve its stiffness. Thus configured, a core is provided having both a mechanical strength suitable for the envisaged use and a greatly improved ability to disintegrate relative to a cardboard core so as to allow it to be able to be disposed of directly in a toilet bowl without risk of blocking the soil pipe.

A calendering roller used to manufacture textured nonwoven fabric including papermaking fibers is disclosed. The calendering roller includes a positive pattern that includes a basic element having a ring shape and a repetition of said basic element along multiple rows and columns substantially overall a peripheral surface of the calendaring roller. The ring defines an apex relatively to a center portion of the ring defining a cavity and a grinded surrounding zone. The ring includes at least one radial channel putting in communication the cavity and the grinded surrounding zone so as to define a discontinuous calendering surface. The repetition is regular except for multiple substantially longitudinally and transversally oriented regions. The regions are of limited size with respect to a calendering roller size and randomly distributed so as to define multiple random longitudinal and transverse lines in the textured nonwoven fabric including papermaking fibers, generating a cloth-like visual texture.

A core has a cylindrical wall that can be torn axially and is made up of two superposed strips, these strips respectively being an outer strip in contact with the product and an inner strip, these strips being wound on one another and joined together by regions of attachment for example by bonding. At least one of the longitudinal edges of the inner strip is not attached or is weakly attached over a determined width in order, over at least part of its helical length, to form a free and accessible tab facing the outer strip.

A method for making a water-degradable paper sheet involves the following: providing at least one strip of a water-soluble binding material in the form of a dry film; providing at least two strips each made of at least one ply of cellulose wadding; placing the strip of water-soluble binding material between the two strips of cellulose wadding; humidifying, assembling and pressing the three strips; and drying the complex strip thus obtained. The sheet thus obtained can be used for making a roll carrier mandrel by helically winding one or more strips from the sheet about a cylinder. Articles produced from the sheet can particularly be used in the field of products for sanitary or domestic use.

The present invention relates to a method for the combination of at least two plies of tissue paper without glue and by pressure marking, characterized in that it involves embossing at least one first ply according to an embossing design by passage between a first cylinder and a second cylinder covered externally with a rubber blanket, then combining at least one second ply with the first ply by causing both plies to pass between the first engraved steel cylinder of axis CC' and at least one first series of small externally smooth coaxial cylinders of axis XX&#x2032;. Both plies are then passed between the first cylinder and a second series of small externally smooth coaxial cylinders of axis YY&#x2032;, the axes of CC&#x2032;, XX&#x2032;; and YY&#x2032; being horizontal and parallel. The invention relates to a process for manufacturing an absorbent sheet comprising at least two plies of cellulose wadding, consisting in combining said plies under pressure by passing between two steel cylindrical components, the first being smooth on the outside and the second being equipped with raised components on the outside and the hardness of the first cylindrical component being lower than that of the second cylindrical component. According to the invention, the first cylindrical component has a treated hardened surface layer and a deformable underlayer; the second cylindrical component has a hardened outer surface, and the sheet, when it passes between the two cylindrical components is compressed at a specific pressure between 40 and 250 N/mm.
