A technique enables maintenance of sufficient clearance between a wellhead and, for example, a mobile rig. The technique facilitates support of a cable, e.g. an antenna suspension cable, at the wellhead without detrimentally affecting the desired clearance. According to an embodiment, a flange system is used in combination with a cable clamp assembly at a wellhead. The flange system may comprise a flange having a connector portion configured for coupling with the wellhead. The flange also comprises a cylinder portion coupled to the connector portion such that the cylinder portion extends into a corresponding bore of the wellhead. The cable clamp assembly is configured to clamp around and support a cable extending down through the wellhead. The cable clamp assembly is supported within the cylinder portion of the flange such that the cable clamp assembly is at least partially disposed within the wellhead.

A method for correcting geomagnetic reference field includes measuring Earth magnetic field elements at least one known geodetic position. Earth magnetic field elements are measured at a position proximate the location. A disturbance function is determined from the Earth magnetic field measurements made at the at least one known geodetic position. A magnetic disturbance field measurement transfer function is estimated between the at the at least one known geodetic and proximate positions to estimate a disturbance function at the proximate position. The estimated magnetic disturbance function is used to correct geomagnetic reference field or measurements made at the location.

Method to predict local geomagnetic disturbance field and its practical application

A method for determining position of a wellbore in the Earth's subsurface can include: actuating a seismic energy source at a selected location along the wellbore; detecting seismic energy with sensors located at known geodetic positions along the wellbore, the detected seismic energy being at least partially reflected by a casing of an adjacent wellbore; and determining the geodetic position of the wellbore at the selected location from the detected seismic energy.

Method for determining wellbore position using seismic sources and seismic receivers

Methods and apparatuses for geophysical surveying are disclosed. In one embodiment, a marine vehicle may obtain magnetic measurements in a location around a drilling site. The magnetic measurements may be used to calculate a localized disturbance magnetic field resulting from, for example, solar flares. The localized disturbance magnetic field may be used to calculate a declination value and, thus, a wellbore position with improved accuracy.

A method for determining position of a wellbore in the Earth's subsurface includes actuating a plurality of seismic energy sources each disposed at a known geodetic position. Seismic energy from the sources is detected at a selected location along the wellbore. The geodetic position at the selected location is determined from the detected seismic energy. A corresponding method includes actuating a seismic energy source at a selected position within the wellbore. The seismic energy is detected at a plurality of known geodetic positions. The geodetic position of the source is determined from the detected seismic energy.

Methods for drilling a new well in a field having a plurality of existing cased wells using magnetic ranging while drilling are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, a method of drilling a new well in a field having an existing cased well includes drilling the new well using a bottom hole assembly (BHA) having a drill collar having by an insulated gap, generating a current on the BHA while drilling the new well, such that some of the current passes through a surrounding formation and travels along a casing of the existing cased well, measuring from the BHA a magnetic field caused by the current traveling along the casing of the existing cased well, and adjusting a trajectory of the BHA to avoid a collision between the new well and the existing cased well based on measurements of the magnetic field.

Anti-collision method for drilling wells

A method and system for mitigating risk of well collision in a field includes receiving an anti-collision standard exemption request containing a description of risk of collision between a subject well and one or more offset wells, generating an assessment of the anti-collision standard exemption request using a stored multidimensional decision matrix, reviewing the assessment, and selectively updating the decision matrix based on the review.

Method of mitigating risk of well collision in a field

A system and method for viewing well log data. An identifier associated with a wellbore is entered into a display device at a first location. The well identifier is transmitted to a first database at a second location having well log data or ancillary data therein. The well log data or ancillary data are sent to the first location, and a table of contents indexing the data is generated for display on the display device. The table having selection fields linked to multiple data dimensions so that random selection by a user displays the selected data on the display device.
