Embodiments are disclosed for a sequence selective symbol checker for communication systems. An example method includes configuring a symbol checker of a receiver with first binary sequence data generated by a symbol generator of the receiver. The example method also includes comparing, using the symbol checker, second binary sequence data provided by a transmitter to the first binary sequence data to generate error count data related to a number of errors for symbols associated with the second binary sequence data. The example method also includes determining total count data related to a number of symbols associated with the first binary sequence data. The example method also includes determining error ratio data associated with the transmitter based on the error count data and the total count data.

Method and apparatus for symbol-error-rate (SER) based tuning of transmitters and receivers

A method and apparatus for a feed forward equalizer for a communication system are described. An equalizer comprising a tapped filter having multiple filter multipliers and a summing element is described. The equalizer further comprises a correlator having multiple correlator multipliers, with each correlator multiplier having a corresponding integrator, a set of shared delay elements to connect to the filter multipliers and the correlator multipliers; and an error signal generator to connect to the correlator.

Feed forward equalizer for a communication system

Method and apparatus for a feed forward equalizer for a communication system are described wherein an equalizer may comprise a tapped filter having multiple filter multipliers, a correlator having multiple correlator multipliers, and a set of shared delay elements to connect to the filter multipliers and the correlator multipliers. Each delay element may include multiple delay stages. A first delay stage may receive an input data signal and output a first delay signal to one of the correlator multipliers, and a second delay stage may receive the first delay signal and output a second delay signal to one of the filter multipliers. Feed forward equalizer

A method, apparatus, and system for optical communications. An optical transmit signal is generated in response to an electrical transmit signal. The optical transmit signal is coupled into a single communication link for transmission there over. An optical receive signal is received from the single communication link, and in response an electrical receive signal is generated.

Techniques to adjust sampling times of an input signal. The techniques may utilize multi-level modification of the phase of a sampling clock. For example, the level of modification of the phase of the sampling clock may depend on the phase angle of the sampling clock in which transitions of the input signal occur.

Techniques to adjust a signal sampling point

A phase detector and corresponding method. The phase detector detects a transition of a first signal and generates an output signal having a first value if a transition of a second signal occurs before the transition of the first signal and having a second value if the transition of the second signal occurs after the transition of the first signal. The output signal is maintained at the generated value until another transition of the first signal is detected. A strobe signal may be used to strobe the output signal.
