In a device and a method for improving the print image uniformity, at least one print image is printed by a printer with at least one print bar that has at least one print head with a plurality of print nozzles. An image detector having a plurality of dot/image detection regions detects at least one value profile of measured inking intensities. A comparator compares the value profile with at least one reference value, and generates correction values dependent thereon.

A method is provided for optimized color reproduction of a color original image by a color reproduction device. Color values of a color space of the original image are determined. A color space of the color reproduction device is determined. The color spaces of the original image and of the color reproduction device are compared and it is established which color range of the original image cannot be reproduced by the color reproduction device. Via a color adaption method, an adaption of the non-reproducible color range of the original image, and of a boundary range bordering this non-reproducible color range, to the color space of the color reproduction device is provided. Then an image-specific color association is generated. The original image is output by the image reproduction device according to the image-specific color association.

The target image data of a corresponding partial target image is determined for each partial source image on the basis of the source image data. Resolution is changed since the number of source image data of each partial source image differs from the number of target image data of each partial target image.

The inventive method reduces the quantity of the actual number of pixels to be printed to attain a given resolution, on average, by half, with each two or pair of adjacent pixels of the original print information being sequentially processed to form a print pixel and a socalled white or unprinted pixel. The arrangement of print pixels and white pixels is effected so as to print a checkerboard pattern. The ink droplets accordingly have the smallest possible substrate or print media contact area so that adjacent ink droplets which are not yet dry are effectively prevented from running together and thereby degrading the resulting image.
