A multi-sided container comprises a bottom wall, a top wall, opposite side walls, opposite end walls, a longitudinal axis and a plurality of diagonal corner walls. At least one of the plurality of diagonal corner walls that is defined by at least one diagonal corner panel and at least one reinforcement flap is overlapping one another. A portion of the bottom wall projects under and beyond a bottom edge of the at least one diagonal corner wall.

Container with modified corner

A multi-sided container comprises a bottom wall, opposite side walls, opposite end walls, a longitudinal axis, and a transverse axis. The multi-sided container also comprises diagonal corners connecting adjacent ends of the side walls and the end walls. The diagonal corners each comprising an inner diagonal corner panel and an outer diagonal corner panel. One of the inner and outer diagonal corner panels extends at an angle of less than 45&#xb0; with respect to an adjacent end wall, and the other of said inner and outer diagonal corner panels extends at an angle of less than 45&#xb0; with respect to an adjacent side wall. One of the inner and outer diagonal corner panels has a major thrust vector in a direction parallel to the transverse axis of the container and said other of said inner and outer diagonal corner panels has a major thrust vector in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the container. The inner and outer diagonal corner panels provide resistance to both lateral and longitudinal deflection of the container.

Container with triangulated corners

A multi-sided container comprising a bottom wall, a top wall, opposite side walls, opposite end walls, a longitudinal axis and a plurality of diagonal corner walls all are cooperating with one another to form an interior space. At least one of the plurality of diagonal corner walls defined by at least one diagonal corner panel and at least one reinforcement flap overlapping one another and wherein a portion of the bottom wall projects under and beyond a bottom edge of the at least one diagonal corner wall. The at least one reinforcement flap extends from longitudinal ends of the respective opposite side walls. At least one end flap extends from long side of the reinforcement flap and the at least one end flap projects beyond an entire surface of the at least one diagonal corner wall terminating its edge at the end wall.

Multi-sided tray bliss container

A container made from corrugated paperboard has a bottom wall, opposite side and end walls, and a self locking arrangement on the end walls holding the container in erected condition. The self locking arrangement includes first and second end panels on opposite ends of the side walls, and a third end panel on opposite ends of the bottom wall. The end panels form the end walls of the container. The first and second end panels have at least one notch formed in an upper edge, and a roll over flap is foldably joined by at least one web to an upper edge of each of the third end panels and is folded inwardly and downwardly over the upper edges of the first and second end panels into a locked position to hold the end panels and thus the container in erected condition. In the locked position, the web is engaged in the notch. In particular, the web has a thickness less than the thickness of an end panel, so that it fits deeply into the notch, producing a tight fit and reliable interlocking of the components of the self locking arrangement.

Self locking feature for containers

An octagonal bulk bin has sidewalls, end walls and diagonal corner panels interposed between adjacent sidewalls and end walls. Major bottom flaps are foldably joined to a bottom edge of the sidewalls, minor bottom flaps are foldably joined to a bottom edge of the end walls, and diagonal bottom flaps are foldably joined to a bottom edge of the diagonal corner panels. A cut separates each major bottom flap from an adjacent diagonal bottom flap, and a web panel connects adjacent side edges of the minor bottom flaps and diagonal bottom flaps. According to one aspect of the invention, each diagonal bottom flap, web panel, and portion of an adjacent major bottom flap are crushed. According to another aspect of the invention, differently shaped notches in a free edge of the minor flaps form locking tabs that are engaged in slots near a free edge of the major flaps.

Octagonal bulk bin with self-locking webbed bottom flaps

A container made from corrugated paperboard has more than four sides and is constructed to resist distortion when force is applied to the ends or sides of the container, and also to resist crushing when containers are stacked on top of one another. In one embodiment, the container has six sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and two diagonally opposed diagonal corner panels and two diagonally opposed square corners. In another embodiment, the container has seven sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and three diagonal corner panels and one square corner. In a further embodiment, the container has eight sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and four diagonally opposed diagonal corner panels. In this embodiment, the diagonal corner panels are oriented so that they subtend an angle of from about 35&#xb0; to about 40&#xb0;, and preferably 38&#xb0;, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the container. The diagonal corner panels in the other embodiments may also be oriented at 38&#xb0;, or from about 35&#xb0; to about 40&#xb0;.

Container with improved stacking strength and resistance to lateral distortion

A corrugated paperboard container () has a bottom (), opposite side walls () and opposite end walls (). The end walls include an end panel () that is foldably connected to the bottom, and end flap panels () that are foldably connected to the side walls. A roll-over flap () is connected to the end wall by a web (), and a notch () is in the top edge of the end flap panels. The end wall panel and end flap panels are folded into overlying relationship, and the roll-over flap is folded over an upper edge of the end wall panel, with the web lying in the notch. A projection or hook () extends into one side of the notch to engage an edge of the web to retain the web in the notch. A blank for making the container is also disclosed. A cover () for the container, and a blank for making the same, include an end wall panel () and end flap panels (), with a roll-over flap () connected to the end wall panel, and a hook () to engage an edge of the web joining the roll-over flap to an end panel of the cover. In one embodiment of a cover, crushed areas () are formed in the cover to provide a depression for receiving an edge of the end flap panels, and in another embodiment, a cover lock tab () extends downwardly from the end walls of the cover for engagement in hand hold openings () in the ends of a container.

Self-locking roll-over flap with hook lock

A container () for storing and shipping produce is reinforced with at least one cross beam () extending across the bottom wall () of the container to form a bridge under loose product placed in the container to support at least a portion of the weight of the product and prevent sagging of the container bottom. The cross beam is positioned and held in place by engaging the ends of the cross beam in recesses () formed by crushed areas () on an inner surface of opposing side walls, or cut-outs () in the side walls, and/or by flaps () folded upwardly from the container bottom wall and to which the cross beam is attached.

Paperboard container with bottom support

A container for carrying produce having dove tail locks is created from a container blank having nonsymmetrical, offset dove tail locks on the edges of the blank. When the blank is on a larger paperboard substrate having multiple blanks, the dove tail locks of a blank border the dove tail locks of an adjacent blank in a configuration that eliminates pinch points. The elimination of pinch points is achieved by having dove tail locks wherein the sides of the dove tail lock diverge from each other at different angles and for different horizontal vectors.

Offset dove tail locks

An octagonal bulk bin of corrugated paperboard has opposed parallel side walls spaced a predetermined distance apart and opposed parallel end walls spaced a predetermined distance apart. The side and end walls are joined by diagonal corner panels. The diagonal corner panels are made wider than the corner panels in a conventional bin, and the side and end walls are narrower, with the corner panels and the end walls having approximately the same width, while maintaining the predetermined spacing. This configuration reduces the bulge experienced when product is loaded into the bin. In addition to the wider corner panels, or in lieu thereof, scores may be placed in at least one of the side and end panels to define a line along which controlled and predetermined buckling will take place, if buckling occurs.

A container for carrying produce is reinforced with at least one cross beam extending longitudinally across the upper side of the container and supported by the container's side walls. The cross beam is supported by die cut recesses in the upper edge of opposing side walls or by extensions extending from the sides of the cross beam.

A container made from corrugated paperboard has more than four sides and is constructed to resist distortion when force is applied to the ends or sides of the container, and also to resist crushing when containers are stacked on top of one another. In one embodiment, the container has six sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and two diagonally opposed diagonal corner panels and two diagonally opposed square corners. In a further embodiment, the container has eight sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and four diagonally opposed diagonal corner panels. In this embodiment, the diagonal corner panels are oriented so that they subtend an angle of from about 35&deg; to about 40&deg;, and preferably 38&deg;, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the container. The diagonal corner panels in the other embodiments may also be oriented at 38&deg;, or from about 35&deg; to about 40&deg;.

A container made from corrugated paperboard has at least one mitered corner, with an extended edge portion of one of the container walls extending beyond the mitered corner. A bag cuff grab is formed on the extended edge portion to engage and at least temporarily hold in position a bag placed in the container while product is placed in the bag and container. In one embodiment, the container has six sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and two mitered corners. In another embodiment, the container has seven sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and three mitered corners. In a third embodiment, the container has eight sides, with two side walls, two end walls, and four mitered corners. A bag cuff grab can be formed on an extended edge portion at only one or all of the mitered corners, and can be limited to two bag cuff grabs on extended edge portions at diagonally opposite mitered corners. In a preferred embodiment, the bag cuff grab is a notch formed in the extended edge portion.
