A generator slot wedge is described. The slot wedge includes a surface and further includes a strain gage. The strain gage is attached to the surface of the slot wedge. A method of determining the strain on the generator slot wedge of the generator via the strain gage is also described.

Wedge tightness monitoring

A generator air gap baffle train assembly includes linearly aligned baffle segments, linearly aligned wedge blocks, and a tensioning rod. Each baffle segment includes a radially outer portion having an outer surface to interface with the axial slot and a side surface angled with respect to the outer surface and an axially aligned first thru bore and a radially inner portion which projects into an air gap. A pair of wedge blocks are positioned on opposing sides of the radially outer portion, each wedge block including a side surface that interfaces with the side surface of the radially outer portion so that the interfacing surfaces are in abutting contact and an outer surface that interfaces with the axial slot and a second thru bore axially aligned with the first thru bore of each baffle segment. The tensioning rod is enclosed by a non-conducting hollow tube spanning between adjacent baffle segments.

Air gap baffle train for a zone cooled turbine generator

A generator stator end winding coil support assembly is presented. The assembly includes a bracket rigidly secured to a core flange plate and a brace clamped between a backup plate and the bracket by studs. The brace connects to an inner support ring. An elastic layer is disposed around the brace. Sleeves are disposed in apertures of the brace and enclose the studs. The sleeves set up a gap at interfaces between the brace and the bracket and between the brace and the backup plate that defines a compression of the elastic layer. The compression enables the brace to be movable relative to the bracket rigidly secured to the core flange plate for flexibly supporting the end winding coils. Flexibility and stiffness of the support is controllable by adjusting clamping force of the studs and selection of the elastic layer based on load conditions during operation.

Generator stator end winding coil support assembly

An assembly and a method for supporting generator stator end winding coils are presented. The assembly includes an outer support circumferentially disposed on outer side of bottom end winding coils and inner braces disposed on inner side of top end winding coils and circumferentially spaced apart from each other. At least one inner brace is disposed along an axial direction of the top end winding coils. Studs are radially oriented and threaded into the inner braces from the outer support. The studs are tensioned and retightenable to a required clamping force for supporting the end winding coils. Filler layers are disposed between the top end wind coils and bottom end wind coils for supporting the clamping force.

Assembly and method for supporting generator stator end winding coils

A baffle train for turbine generator air baffles independently aligns axial position of the composite air baffle along a stator core bore axial slot. Air baffle sectors that form the composite air baffle are coupled to baffle blocks of the baffle train. The baffle blocks are positioned axially along at least one axial spacer rod corresponding to the desired position of the composite air baffle within the stator bore. The baffle blocks are locked into position by a locking engagement member. Wedge blocks are axially spaced on a reciprocating wedge block rod within the stator slot below the baffle blocks. A biasing element, such as arched leaf spring, tensions the baffle block radially inwardly toward the stator bore when the wedge blocks are reciprocated below the baffle blocks.

Air gap baffle train for turbine generator

An intercoupled stator core is separated from a non-vertically oriented (including horizontal) generator frame by decoupling the stator core and frame coupling members and interposing a slidable member between them. Thereafter they are separated relative to each other on the sliding member. The sliding or slidable member may comprise a rail, or alternatively a roller adapted for rolling contact with one of the opposed stator core or generator structures and an engagement surface in contact with the other structure. A system for separating the stator core from a non-vertically oriented generator frame includes first and second raising end plates adapted coupled to axial ends of the stator core. The end plates project outwardly from the generator frame ends, for coupling to a raise mechanism. After the raise mechanism raises the stator core the slidable member is interposed between the stator core and generator frame.

Method and apparatus for generator stator core separation

Stator coil removal method

A system and method for monitoring the condition of a vibration sensor in a system. Vibrations are received in the system at one or more vibration sensors. Sensor data is output by the vibration sensor(s). The sensor data includes data representative of the vibrations in the system and data representative of a natural frequency of the corresponding vibration sensor. The sensor data output from the vibration sensor(s) is monitored, and upon a change in the data representative of the natural frequency of a vibration sensor, that vibration sensor is flagged.

Method for monitoring the condition of a vibration sensor

A method for measuring a tangential tightness of a stator coil within an armature slot of a stator assembly in an electric generator. The stator coil is excited to produce a vibratory response therein. The vibratory response of the stator coil is detected and a frequency response function of the vibratory response is determined. A tangential tightness of the stator coil within the armature slot is estimated based on the frequency response function of the vibratory response of the stator coil.

A flux probe () for measuring the rotor flux of an electric generator (). The probe () is affixed to a probe carrier () and held within a stator coil slot () by affixing the carrier () to two opposing grooves () formed in sidewalls () of the slot (). One or more stator coils () are also disposed in the slot () and retained therein by a wedge () and corresponding spring () that applies an radially outwardly directed force to the coils (). In one embodiment the probe carrier () is affixed to a radially inwardly directed face () of the wedge ().

Flux probe for electric generator

Method and apparatus for measuring the tightness of generator stator slot wedges and ripple springs with the rotor still in place. A wedge block having a hydraulic cylinder disposed therein is installed within the upper of a pair of parallel grooves in the stator slot. The hydraulic cylinder is activated to press down on a load plate, which in turn contacts a slot wedge within the other pair of parallel grooves. This is turn compresses the ripple spring between the slot wedge and the stator windings. A load cell measures the force required to compress the ripple spring, while four linear variable differential transformers measure the amount of displacement of the slot wedge. These two measurements are then used to derive a measurement for the tightness of the slot wedge and the ripple spring.

Load deflection testing apparatus for generator slot wedges and ripple

A standard, predetermined phase sequence of the three-phase voltage output of an electrical power generator, as produced through conventional main leads in the generator lead box which interconnect three (3) generally, axially aligned pairs of connectors of first and second sets, is selectively reversible by the utilization of crossed main leads between two adjacent pairs of the connectors of the first and second sets. Each of the crossed main leads includes opposite end portions aligned with the diagonally-related and interconnected pair of connectors of the first and second sets, the end portions having corresponding bends therein for smoothly contouring and integrally joining the central portions thereof, and the central portions have complementary outward bends in at least the mutual crossing portions thereof to maintain a predetermined, minimum distance therebetween so as to satisfy voltage strike requirements. Insulating support plates maintain the required minimum distance between the mutual crossing portions and special, directional ventilating ducts compensate for increased eddy current heating of localized areas of the lead box.

Method and apparatus for changing the phase sequence of a completed

A resilient stator coil support bracket is provided particularly useful for large hydrogen innercooled turbine generators to give the end winding support assembly greater axial flexibility without substantially increasing the radial flexibility of the assembly. The support bracket includes an element secured to the core as well as an element secured to the brace that is radially outside each coil end turn with a sheet of resilient material therebetween, or there are two elements of the brace secured to the core with an intermediate element secured to the brace and the mating surfaces of all adjacent elements are spaced by sheets of resilient material, such as of an elastomer, that flexes in shear and compression modes. The bracket is tunable in the sense that the selection of the thickness and composition of the resilient material permits adjusting the natural frequency of the assembly to avoid resonance with the excitation frequency which such gas-cooled generators are sometimes susceptible. Also, the resilient bracket can be easily installed in the field to replace rigid brackets on machines in which the vibration problem has appeared.
