A power generation system includes a power generator operatively connected to a plurality of sensors and a processor. The processor is configured to observe usage-based or event-based data regarding one or more components and consumables of the power generator. A usage-based service schedule is observed for the one or more event-based components and consumables. Operation-based data is received from the plurality of sensors regarding the functioning of the power generation system and one or more operation-based components and consumables of the power generator. An operation-based service schedule is determined for the one or more operation-based components and consumables based on the operation-based data. A blended service schedule is generated, the blended service schedule including the usage-based service schedule and the operation-based service schedule. The blended service schedule is then provided to at least one of a local monitor or a remote monitor.

An estimated engine efficiency value is determined in response to the alternator output power parameter and the fuel flow input measurement. A method of operating a power generator comprises receiving, a fault code corresponding to an operating condition of the power generator being outside of an acceptable range. A generator controller determines a cost of increased maintenance or repairing damage associated with overriding the fault code and maintaining existing power output from the power generator through the operating condition. A cost of a utility fine or contractual penalty associated with shutting down the power generator is determined in response to the fault code. The generator controller compares the cost of the utility fine or contractual penalty associated with shutting down the power generator with the cost of increased maintenance or damage repair to the power generator associated with overriding the fault code and maintaining existing power output through the operating condition. In response to the comparing, the fault code is overridden continuing operation of the power generator.

Economically efficient operation of a power generator

A system includes an electrical energy storage device that may be in the form of one or more batteries, a charger to selectively charge the electrical energy storage device, and charger cabling sized to electrically interconnect the storage device and the charger together and span a distance separating them. The charger cabling is initially connected across the charger without the storage device to determine information specific to voltage drop caused by the cabling. The system is then reconfigured so that the cabling connects the storage device to the charger for charging. During this charging operation the previously gathered information is used to compensate for the voltage drop along the cabling as the storage device is charged with the charger.
