In general, the present disclosure is directed to forming lithium ion battery (LIB) cells with structure and chemistry that achieves formation of a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer that allows for operating in relatively high ambient temperature environments, e.g., up to and exceeding 60&#xb0; C., while significantly reducing self-discharge amounts, e.g., relative to other LIB cells formed with SEI layers measuring about 1-2 nanometers in thickness. For example, one non-limiting embodiment of the present disclosure enables a self-discharge amount for a LIB cell of 10% or less over a four (4) week period of time when operating at an ambient temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.

Techniques for forming thermally resilient energy storage devices and a battery thermal management system implementing same

The present disclosure provides for co-electrophoretic deposition (co-EPD) of organo-functionalized strontium fluoride nanoparticles (SrF) with a hydrophobic polymer in the presence of non-aqueous aprotic solvents. The co-EPD procedure can be employed to form a coating or self-supporting film for application to a metal implant.

Electrophoretically deposited strontium fluoride nanoparticle/polymer coatings for medical implants

The present disclosure relates to luminescent phosphors and more particularly, to fluoride-based luminescent phosphors, and methods for their preparation in deep eutectic solvent (DES) systems. The luminescent phosphors are formed with accompanying particle size control, relatively higher crystallinity and relatively higher fluorescence intensity.

The present invention is directed to composite films containing nanostructures within a polymer or monomeric matrix which composite may be formed on a metallic substrate and subsequently removed to provide bulk material. The nanostructures and polymer or monomer matrix may be assembled electrophoretically by initially providing a mixture of the nanostructures and polymer or monomer matrix material within generally anhydrous environments such as polar aprotic solvents followed by deposition of the composite film material.

Electrophoretic formation of nanostructured composites

A method of electrophoretic deposition of adsorbent media onto an electrically conducting substrate. The adsorbent media may include one or more porous coordination polymers and/or one or more secondary adsorbing particles. The adsorbent media may be continuously applied from a liquid composition at a selected thickness and at a controlled rate and as a function of voltage profiles.

The present invention is directed to a method of exchanging nanostructures from within aqueous liquid media into organic liquid media. The steps comprise first supplying solid nanostructures in an aqueous liquid media, adjusting the pH, incorporating an ionic surfactant sufficient to reduce nanostructure aggregation, followed by concentrating the nanostructures in the aqueous liquid media. The nanostructures may them be placed in organic liquid media followed by introduction of a coupling agent capable of covalent attachment to the nanostructure surface while providing a functional group capable of polymerization to covalently bond the nanostructures to a selected monomer and/or polymer resin.

Surface treatment and exchange of nanostructures from aqueous suspension into organic media and into polymer-matrix composites

Nanocomposite compositions and methods of synthesis of the compositions are described. In particular, liquid crystal-functionalized nanoparticles, liquid crystal-templated nanoparticles, nanocomposite compositions including the nanoparticles, and composite compositions including the nanocomposites are detailed.

Nanocomposites and methods for synthesis and use thereof

Metal oxide nanoparticles having at least some surface acid sites functionalized with an adhesion promoter and at least some surface acid sites functionalized with a coupling agent. The nanoparticles are useful in forming composites comprising photopolymerizable matrix monomers, and are primarily suitable for dental and medical restoration. In a preferred embodiment, the metal oxide comprises zirconium, and the coupling agent is a zirconate.

Functionalized zirconium oxide particles

Zirconium oxide nanoparticles having at least some surface acid sites functionalized with a silanating agent and at least some surface acid sites finctionalized with zirconate or a zircoaluminate. The nanoparticles are useful in composites comprising photopolymerizable alkene matrix monomers, and are primarily suitable for dental and medical restoration.
