A wireless communication device maintains a communication contact. The wireless communication device receives media session quality data for the communication contact. The wireless communication device receives a request for a media session with the communication contact and responsively identifies estimated media session quality with the communication contact based on the media session quality data for the communication contact. The wireless communication device displays a session activation icon for the media session request that visually indicates the estimated media session quality for the media session with the communication contact. The wireless communication device receives a user selection of the session activation icon and responsively establishes the media session with the communication contact.

Session quality display in a wireless communication system

Wireless communication systems may transfer communication status to a session icon that is displayed on a wireless communication device such as a smart phone, a tablet, a personal computer, a game console, a hand-held or wearable console, or other software processing device that has a wireless transceiver. A session quality server system obtains communication status data for a set of communication contacts. The session quality server system transfers the communication status data of the contact set over to the wireless communication device. Before a media session such as a voice call is established with a communication contact, the wireless communication device displays a session icon for that communication contact. The communication status of that contact is visually indicated in the session icon.

A method of scaling font size on a user interface of a mobile communication device. The method comprises presenting a message in a first font size on a display of the mobile communication device, and after a predefined delay of time, presenting the message in a second font size on the display of the mobile communication device, where the second font size is larger than the first font size. The method further comprises receiving a selection of a font size and, based on the font size selection, determining and presenting an altered flow of screens and icons automatically in the user interface of the mobile communication device with the selected font size.

A mobile communication device. The device comprises a memory and a processor. The device further comprises an application stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor at initial set-up of the mobile communication device, responsive to no existing dynamic portion of the animation for the network brand identity, downloads the dynamic portion of the animation from a server through an internet protocol (IP) address link stored in the memory, wherein the dynamic portion is in the form of scalable vector graphics (SVG) and comprises vector transformation information of changing portions of the animation from frame to frame, wherein the dynamic portion of the animation comprises network brand specific objects of the animation and configuration parameters to change the background of the static portion based on the network brand identity of the mobile communication device.

System and method of efficient mobile device network brand customization

While a mobile node is engaged in a communication session via a first air interface channel, the user of the mobile node requests a vertical handoff. In response to the user's handoff request, the mobile node goes into a dormant mode to release the first air interface channel. The mobile node then acquires a second air interface channel, which may have a higher data rate than the first air interface channel, and continues the communication session via the second air interface channel. The mobile node may also determine that a vertical handoff may be available, e.g., by checking a preferred roaming list (PRL), and then indicate to the user that a vertical handoff may be available.

A mobile device is provided. The mobile device comprises a wireless transceiver, a first application, a second application, and an interface. The wireless transceiver provides a wireless communication link to a communication network. The second application provides communication based on the wireless communication link. The interface presents, when the first application is active on the mobile device, an indication of a communication directed to the second application being received via the wireless communication link for less than 2 seconds before the second application pre-empts the first application.

A wireless communication device is disclosed for scanning a preferred roaming list (PRL) in a non-roaming mode. The wireless communication device exchanges wireless communications with a first wireless communication network and monitors communication performance of the first wireless communication network while operating in a non-roaming mode. The wireless communication device processes the PRL to perform scans for a pilot signal from a second wireless communication network while operating in the non-roaming mode. The wireless communication device subsequently performs a time correlation of the communication performance of the first wireless communication network and the scans for the pilot signal of the second wireless communication network to determine that a roaming mode should be entered. The roaming mode is then entered and the wireless communication device exchanges wireless communications with the second wireless communication network while operating in the roaming mode.

A keyguard mechanism protects against situations where unintentional touch on a device keypad, by a person or by an inanimate object, unlocks the keypad. A bio-presence based keyguard mechanism for a portable device detects a situation where both a bio-presence sensor and a pressure or displacement sensor are engaged, and then selectively removes an associated keypad from a locked state and places the keypad in an unlocked state. A signal is received from a pressure or displacement sensor associated with a particular key of the keypad, when the keypad is in a locked state. It is then determined whether a signal is received from a bio-presence sensor associated with the particular key, or with a particular portion of the keypad, within an allotted time period, and if so, the status of the keypad is changed to an unlocked state.

A method and system for establishing an application contact list is provided. A user will establish a master contact list on a client station. In response to execution of an application using a contact entry from the master contact list, the client station will then designate the contact entry as a member that is associated with the executed application. In this manner, the client station will mark contacts based on the applications that used the contacts. In addition, the client station generates application contact lists by filtering the master contact list to identify contact entries that are associated with an initiated or executed application. The client station then generates an application contact list including the contact entries that are associated with the application. The user may then select a contact entry from the application contact list for use in execution of the application.

A bio-presence based keyguard mechanism for a portable device detects a situation where both a bio-presence sensor and a pressure or displacement sensor are engaged, and then selectively removes an associated keypad from a locked state and places the keypad in an unlocked state. In accordance with one aspect, the keyguard mechanism employs a method for transforming the status of a portable device keypad from a locked state to an unlocked state. Within the method, a signal is received from a pressure or displacement sensor associated with a particular key of the keypad, when the keypad is in a locked state. It is then determined whether a signal is received from a bio-presence sensor associated with the particular key, or with a particular portion of the keypad, within an allotted time period, and if so, the status of the keypad is changed to an unlocked state.

A method, system, and apparatus for monitoring user-interface operation. One or more wireless communication devices, such as cell phones, will automatically log user-interface events (such as key-presses) and user-interface states (such as display screen state) and will transmit the log-data, via a wireless link, to a central server. The server will then compile the log-data and generate useful output reports regarding user-interface operation. Such reports can assist device manufacturers and distributors (e.g., wireless carriers), triggering changes in user-interface design so as to improve user experience.
