The present invention relates to novel degradable branched-block copolymers, comprising a star-shaped copolymer central core or a linear copolymer central core, functionalized with photoreactive groups chosen among aryl-azide, (meth)acrylate or thiol groups. The present invention also relates to the use of these degradable branched-block copolymers as photo-crosslinkers to provide degradable photo-crosslinked elastomers as biomaterials suitable for medical and tissue engineering applications. A method for preparing a degradable photo-crosslinked polymer, preferably a degradable photo-crosslinked elastomer, starting from the branched-block copolymer of the invention via a shaping process and an irradiation step is also provided.

The present invention relates to an efficient method for grafting a properties-imparting compound onto a polymeric substrate containing carbon-hydrogen (C&#x2014;H) bonds using clip chemistry. The method of the invention includes coating the substrate with the properties-imparting compound and irradiating it with a reactive light source, and repeating this sequence at least once. The present invention further relates to surface-modified polymeric substrates grafted with a properties-imparting compound, in particular obtained with the method of the invention, medical devices comprising same, and non-medical of said surface-modified polymeric substrates.

The invention relates to a hydrophobic thermoplastic copolymer which is in particular of use for manufacturing and/or coating medical devices, in particular implantable medical devices, characterized in that it is obtained by copolymerization, and in that it comprises at least one first monomer unit and at least one second monomer unit onto which is grafted a paramagnetic-ion-chelating ligand which can complex with such a paramagnetic ion or a paramagnetic-ion-chelating ligand which is complexed with such a paramagnetic ion, wherein the second monomer unit is grafted in sufficient amount for the copolymer to be visible in magnetic resonance imaging when it is complexed with said paramagnetic ion. The invention also relates to a method for obtaining said hydrophobic thermoplastic copolymer.
