The automated binding of a data source to a compound control. The properties of the compound control are identified. Furthermore, a particular data source is associated with the compound control. For each of one or more of the properties of the compound control, information regarding the compound control and the data source are used to identify a set of one or more fields of the particular data source that may be bound to the corresponding property of the compound control. If the corresponding property of the compound control has bound thereto an output parameter of a declarative transformation, the nature of the transformation may also be taken into consideration when identifying the set of one or more fields that may be used in order to bind to the corresponding property of the compound control.

Technologies and concepts are described herein for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query. A user interface is provided for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query that includes a view showing the results of a database query. A user interface is also provided for modifying the view to define the results of the query. As the view is modified, a query definition is generated which, when executed against the database, will return the results of the database query shown in the view. When the desired results are shown in the view, the query definition can be saved and run against the database to perform the database query.

Concepts and technologies are described herein for providing adaptive timeline views of data. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, data is displayed in an adaptive timeline view in which data is presented using a time scale. The time scale can be modified to increase or decrease a span of time displayed by the adaptive timeline view, or a span of time can be shifted without affecting the time scale applied to the data. Motion can be used to convey information about the data during transitions from a first view to a modified view. As such, the adaptive timeline view can convey various layers of information to a user interacting with the adaptive timeline view.
