A composition for forming a foamed silicone elastomer is disclosed. The composition comprises: A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule; B) an organohydrogensiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule; C) a hydrosilylation catalyst; D) a chemical blowing agent; and E) a physical blowing agent. The hydrosilylation catalyst C) is present in a catalytically effective amount. The chemical blowing agent D) has at least one hydroxyl (OH) group, and is present in an amount to provide a OH content &#x3e;0 and &#x3c;500 parts per million (ppm). The physical blowing agent E) undergoes a phase change from a liquid to a gaseous state during exposure to atmospheric pressure and a temperature &#x2265;0&#xb0; C. The blowing agents D) and E) are different from one another. A foamed silicone elastomer, and methods of forming the composition and foamed silicone elastomer are also disclosed.

A polyurethane reaction system includes an isocyanate component having at least one polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive component having a storage stable polyol component that is a single phase liquid mixture at 23&#xb0; C. including a first polyether polyol and a second polyether polyol. The first polyether polyol is included in an amount from 20 wt % to 90 wt %, based on total weight of the polyol component, is a glycol based polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene polyether polyol having number average molecular weight from 1500 g/mol to 1975 g/mol, and has a polyoxyethylene content from 26 wt % and 34 wt % based on a total weight of the first polyether polyol. The second polyether polyol is included in an amount from 10 wt % to 80 wt %, based on total weight of the polyol component, has a number average molecular weight from 750 g/mol to 4000 g/mol, and has a melting point higher than 23&#xb0; C.

Storage stable polyol composition for polyurethane elastomers

A liquid polycarbonate coating composition including an aliphatic polycarbonate resin and a cross linking compound, said aliphatic polycarbonate resin being derived from, in the presence of a catalyst, an aliphatic polyol which comprises (a) from 50 to 100% by weight of the aliphatic polyol, one or more cycloaliphatic polyols that consist essentially of primary hydroxyl groups and (b) from 0 to 50% by weight of the aliphatic polyol, one or more linear aliphatic polyols, is provided. A method of coating a substrate with the liquid polycarbonate coating composition and the resulting articles are also provided.

Polycarbonate coatings for metal packaging

Embodiments of the invention provide for a polycarbonate polyol including the reaction product of at least one polyol composition and a carbonate. The polycarbonate is one of an amorphous liquid and an amorphous solid at room temperature. The polyol composition includes at least one of a mixture of 1,3-cyclohexanedimethanol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol in a weight ratio from about 60:40 to about 5:95 and a polyol derived from a natural oil fatty acid or natural oil fatty acid methyl ester.

Polycarbonate polyols and polyurethanes made therefrom

The present invention is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) comprising structural units of: a.) a diisocyanate; b.1) a polyester diol and b.2) a specific polyether diol and c.) a chain extender. The TPU has good combinations of light transmission and clarity, tensile strength, low temperature flexibility, and high moisture vapor transition rates compared to other commercial or known TPUs. A preferred example composition is a TPU that is based on MDI as the diisocyanate monomer, polycaprolactone as a polyester diol, an EO capped EO/PO polyether diol containing less than 20% EO, and butanediol as chain extender. These composition have good combinations of clarity, tensile strength, hydrolytic stability and processability compared to TPUs prepared using either polyester or polyether diols alone or the combination with a higher EO polyether diol.

In one embodiment the invention is a polymerizable composition comprising a) an organoborane amine complex; b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization; c) one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization; and d) a catalyst for the polymerization of the one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization. This composition may further comprise a compound which causes the organoborane amine complex to disassociate. In a preferred embodiment, the two part composition further comprises a compound which is reactive with both the b) one or more of monomers, oligomers or polymers having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization; and the c) one or more compounds, oligomers or prepolymers having a siloxane backbone and reactive moieties capable of polymerization. This composition can be polymerized by contacting the two parts of the composition. In another embodiment the invention is an organoborane amine complex comprising an alkyl borane having ligands which are alkyl, cycloalkyl or both and an amino siloxane.

Amine organoborane complex initiated polymerizable compositions containing siloxane polymerizable components

The invention is a two part polymerizable composition comprising in one part an organoborane amine complex and one or more compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties, and in a second part, compounds capable of being polymerized by free radical polymerization, a catalyst capable of polymerizing compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties and optionally a component that will decomplex the organoborane amine complex. In one embodiment the invention is a two phase system comprising a first phase containing one or more polymers prepared from the compounds which polymerize by free radical polymerization and a second phase comprising polymerized or partially polymerized compounds derived from one or more compounds containing ring opening heterocyclic moieties. In one embodiment the polymer prepared from compounds containing heterocyclic ring opening moieties is not miscible with the polymer prepared by free radical polymerization and thus the resulting polymerized composition has at least two regions each rich in one of the two polymers formed. In another embodiment the polymerizable compositions of the invention can be formulated into adhesive compositions. Adhesive compositions of the present formulation provide excellent adhesion to low surface energy plastics from room temperature to temperatures over 125&deg; C.

Organoborane amine complex polymerization initiators and polymerizable compositions

The present invention is a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or thermoplastic polyurethane/urea (TPUU) comprising structural units of: a) a diisocyanate; b) ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, or 1,3-propanediol; c) a diol, a diamine, or an amino alcohol different from the one selected in (b) and having a molecular weight of less than 400 Daltons; and (d) ethylene oxide polyol or ethylene oxide-capped propylene oxide polyol. The TPU or TPUU has low temperature flexibility, high moisture vapor transition rates, and is considerably less expensive than state-of-the-art TPUs or TPUUs. The preferred composition is a TPU that is substantially free of phase segregation, and consequently has clarity and tensile strength not known for TPUs prepared using ethylene oxide polyol or ethylene oxide-capped propylene oxide polyol.
