The present invention relates to photopolymerizable resin compositions suitable for producing durable dental prosthetic and restorative articles. In particular, the invention relates to photopolymerizable resin compositions comprised of a specific combination of multiple polymerizable components, one or more resin-modifying particle components, and one or more photopolymerization initiator components. Compositions of the invention are especially well-suited to producing durable, stain-and wear-resistant dental prosthetic and restorative articles, such as artificial teeth, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers, in an efficient and reliable manner using additive manufacturing systems and methods (e.g., three-dimensional (D) printing).

A DLP, stereolithography, modified or their modification and combination based printer is used to cure polymerizable material in several different methods of this invention to build-up the object. The invention provides a high strength dental composition including polymerizable dental resins. The dental composition is useful as restorative material and for making various dental devices, such as artificial teeth, crowns and bridges of high strength dental polymeric material.

High strength dental material

A method for light-curing polymerizable materials to form a dental device is provided. A light-curing apparatus having at least one integrated lighting and heating source, a curing volume, and a temperature controller, preferably a fan, is used in the method. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat a first polymerizable material to temperatures within a first temperature range. A second polymerizable material is applied on or adjacent to the first polymerizable material. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat the second polymerizable material to temperatures within a second temperature range. The first temperature range has a first midpoint and the second temperature range has a second midpoint. The first midpoint temperature is at least 10&#xb0; C. apart from the second midpoint temperature. The system is particularly suitable for making dental devices such as full dentures, removable partial dentures, relines of full and partial dentures, nightguards, and occlusal splints.

The invention provides methods of making provisional and long-term dental restorations, particularly dental veneers, implants, crowns and bridges. A shell or restoration form made of polymerizable material having good dimensional shape-stability in its uncured condition is used to make the dental restoration. A polymerizable material is introduced into the cavity of the shell form. The outer shell and injected polymerizable material are polymerized and bond together to form a hardened crown structure. In one embodiment, the restoration can be fabricated indirectly by a dental laboratory. In another version, a dental practitioner can make the restoration chairside for a patient in a dental office.

This invention relates to methods for making a three-dimensional dental prosthesis using ink-jet printing systems. An ink-jet printer is used to discharge light-curable, wax-like polymerizable material in a layer-by-layer manner to build-up the prosthesis. The denture base and set of teeth are made of light-curable, wax-like polymerizable materials comprising a mixture of monomer, oligomer, and light sensitizer. The wax-like materials are dimensionally stable in their uncured states.
