Systems and methods for downhole tubular cutting applications can include a cutting tool that with a cutting head, an anchor module, and a hydraulic module that actuates both. Arms of the anchor module open to an inner surface of a tube prior to blades of the cutting head opening to the inner surface. The blades can be operated by a piston. The piston can include a detent that travels across an actuation profile. This can allow a processor to track the cutting position. The processor can adjust the rotational speed of the blades based on feedback from the system.

Downhole tool for automatic tubular cutting

A milling system may be used to remove the portions of a failed valve that is blocking the wellbore. When milling a partially open valve obstructing the wellbore, the target material to be removed may not be present at the central axis of the wellbore causing the target material to not fully surround the milling bit, which may cause the bit to be deflected away from the target during milling reducing milling efficiency. The disclosed milling system may be used to mill out and capture the coupon for any downhole obstruction that does not have any material near the center axis of the wellbore. A first embodiment of the milling system may be configured to fully mill out material within the wellbore while a second embodiment may be used to mill out material within the wellbore and further catch the milled material or coupon.

Milling and catching devices

A wireline shifting tool comprising an anchor, a linear actuator, and a shifter may be at least partially controlled by one or more measurements indicating an amount of force applied to the anchor, the linear actuator, the shifter, or a combination thereof. For example, a processor may receive the one or more measurements and perform a seeking operation or cause a graphical user interface (GUI) to display information that may inform a user regarding operations associated with the wireline shifting tool.

Wireline automation systems and methods

An annular cutter catching device includes a housing having an inner bore therethrough, a cutter configured to cut a coupon, and a coupon catching device configured to grip an outer surface of the coupon. In an embodiment, an annular cutter catching device includes one or more split rings disposed within the inner bore of the housing. In the embodiment, at least one split ring is configured to grip an outer surface of the coupon within the inner bore of the housing. In an embodiment, an annular cutter catching device includes a coupon catcher disposed within the inner bore of the housing. In an embodiment, the coupon catcher includes a set of fingers movable between an open position and a closed position. In an embodiment, the set of fingers are configured to retain the coupon within the inner bore of the housing in the closed position.

A method includes disposing an intervention service tool within a tubular. The intervention service tool includes an anchoring system, a shifting system, and a linear actuator system. The tubular includes a shifting profile geometry disposed within the tubular at a first location. The anchoring system, the shifting system, and/or the linear actuator system is actuated. Shifter system pressure, linear actuator system force/pressure, and displacement of the shifting system is measured. A known graph of the shifting profile geometry is compared to one or more of a measured pressure, a measured force, or a measured displacement. A position of a key disposed on the shifting system is determined relative to the shifting profile. The shifting profile geometry is engaged with the key based on the position of the key. The shifting profile geometry is positioned at a second location that is different from the first location.

Systems and methods for positioning a shifting profile geometry

A measured electrical property may be used to control operation of a downhole device, which may be at least partially supported by additional downhole measurements consumed by the downhole device. For example, a downhole device may include an electrical sensor that measures an electrical property of electrical power provided to the downhole device. A processor of the downhole device may convert the measured electrical property to a quantized electrical property and determine a command or control action that corresponds to the quantized electrical property. The command or control action may be implemented to control operation of the downhole device.
