The specification and drawings present a new apparatus such as a lighting apparatus, the apparatus comprising at least one LED (or OLED) module, configured to generate a visible light such as white light, and at least one component such as optical component comprising a compound consisting essentially of the elements neodymium (Nd) and fluorine (F), and optionally including one or more other elements. The lighting apparatus is configured to provide a desired light spectrum by filtering the generated visible light using the compound. The at least one component can comprise a NdFOcompound with values of x and y determining a content ratio F/O, which may be adjusted during manufacturing of the NdFOcompound to provide desired output light parameters of the apparatus including at least a desired output light spectrum realized by filtering the generated visible light using the NdFOcompound.

A system and method according to various embodiments can include a lighting fixture comprising a light source. A multilayer thin film coated reflector is applied to an outer light emitting surface of the lighting fixture. A top layer of the multilayer thin film coated reflector comprises a material including an anatase TiO crystal structure that exhibits antimicrobial properties when activated by the light source.

Provided is a method including determining a first incident angle at which light from a light source will impinge on a first thin-film reflective stack of a planned first reflector for a lighting system. The method also includes determining a second incident angle at which light from the light source will impinge on a second thin-film reflective stack of a planned second reflector for the lighting system. The method further includes designing, using a processor executing a software package, the first reflector, comprising tuning a reflective characteristic of the first thin-film reflective stack as a function of the first incident angle determined, and designing, using the processor executing the software package, the second reflector, comprising tuning a reflective characteristic of the second thin-film reflective stack as a function of the second incident angle determined.

Reflector and optical coating for improved LED lighting system

A multilayer coating systems suitable for use as optical interference filters in lighting systems, for example, halogen lamps. Such an optical interference filter contains alternating layers of a high refractive index material and a low refractive index material. The high refractive index material consists of niobia, titania, and incidental impurities and contains either about 25 to less than 50 mol % titania and the balance niobia and incidental impurities, or contains about 60 to about 80 mol % titania and the balance niobia and incidental impurities.
