An apparatus a multiple layer structure having a sub-portion defining an impact zone, and having an inner composite fiber layer, an outer composite fiber layer overlying the inner composite fiber layer, and a woven glass layer, where the inner composite fiber layer, outer composite fiber layer, and the woven glass layer overly the impact zone.

Multiple layer structure

Fan blade containment system includes a composite fan case with an annular composite shell extending from forward flange downstream to aft flange, and circumferentially varying thickness portion of composite shell. Annular composite back sheet spaced radially outwardly of annular composite shell has annular filler layer disposed radially therebetween. Annular forward and aft seams between annular composite shell and composite back sheet may axially trap filler layer. Circumferentially varying thickness portion may include aftwardly extending fingers of composite back sheet in aft seam and first thickness of fingers thicker than second thickness of composite shell circumferentially between fingers. Composite shell may extend from forward flange to aft flange. Aft flange bolted to metallic flange of metallic fan casing aft of aft flange. Containment system may circumscribe and surround fan and fan blades of gas turbine engine fan section.

Circumferentially varying thickness composite fan casing

An apparatus and method for a multiple layer fan casing surrounding a fan having a plurality of circumferentially spaced blades rotatable about a rotational axis and having a sub-portion defining a blade impact zone, the multiple layers comprising an inner fiber layer confronting the blades, an outer fiber layer overlying the inner carbon layer, a glass layer sandwiched between the inner and outer composite fiber layers.

Fan casing with annular shell

Fan blade containment system includes circular tile layer of annular ceramic tiles attached to and extending radially inwardly from a shell, radially inner and outer annular surfaces of ceramic tiles bonded to a radially inner composite layer and the shell respectively with elastomeric inner and outer adhesive layers respectively. Elastomeric adhesive layers between circumferentially adjacent overlapped or scarfed edges along circumferential edges of the ceramic tiles overlap and mate along oppositely facing surfaces of adjacent ones of the ceramic tiles. Inner and outer adhesive layers and elastomeric adhesive layer may be a double-sided adhesive foam tape. Scarfed edges may be bevels or rabbets. Shell may be made of a metal or composite material. Fan blade containment system may be bonded to and extend inwardly from fan case circumscribing fan blades of a fan. Inner composite layer and composite outer shell may be co-cured with ceramic tiles therebetween.

A hybrid support ring comprises a suspender and a belt, the suspender defined by a flange and a leg rearwardly extending having a lug, the suspender also extending circumferentially, the suspender formed of a first material, the belt extending circumferentially and disposed in the lug, the belt being formed of a second material.

Hybrid spinner support

A splitter apparatus for a gas turbine engine includes: a splitter including: an annular outer wall which defines a convex-curved leading edge at a forward end thereof; an annular floorplate positioned radially inboard of the outer wall; and an annular first bulkhead spanning between the outer wall and the floorplate. The outer wall, the floorplate, and the bulkhead collectively define an annular splitter plenum positioned adjacent the leading edge of the outer wall. At least one exhaust passage formed in the outer wall extends past the floorplate and communicates with the exterior of the splitter. At least one jumper tube assembly passes through the first bulkhead, each configured to pass air flow from the exterior of the splitter into the plenum.

A disclosed embodiment provides an acoustic panel having a composite laminate panel having a back sheet layer, a face sheet layer, and a core layer disposed therebetween. The core layer has one or more depressions at an interface between the core layer and the face sheet layer, with the face sheet having a generally uniform thickness across the composite laminate panel. A hole extends through the composite laminate panel at the depressions, and a bolt assembly extends through the hole such that it is countersunk.
