A method can include determining an initial position of an object with respect to a sensing region formed by a plurality of sensors and having a core region bounded by at least one edge; if the initial position is proximate to the edge and a size of the object was previously calculated, determining a final edge position of the object using the previously calculated object size; and if the initial position is proximate to the edge and the size of the object was not previously calculated, determining a size of the object.

Position sensing methods and devices with dynamic gain for edge positioning

Apparatuses and methods of sense arrays with non-uniform patterns are described. One capacitive-sense array includes a first set of electrodes and a second set of electrodes. The first set of electrodes intersect the second set of electrodes to form a unit cells each corresponding to an intersection of a pair of electrodes comprising one electrode from the first set and one electrode from the second set. At one of the second set of electrodes includes a non-uniform conductive pattern including a first region being located at the intersection of the respective unit cell and a distal region being at a location within the respective unit cell that is farther away from the intersection than the first region. The first region includes a first conductive surface area and the distal region includes a second conductive surface area that is greater than the first conductive surface area.

Uniform signals from non-uniform patterns of electrodes

Embodiments of a capacitive sensor array may comprise a plurality of large sensor electrodes and, for each of the large sensor electrodes, a first plurality of small sensor electrodes each capacitively coupled with the large sensor electrode, and each conductively coupled by one of a first set of routing traces to one of a first set of conductors located in a first edge region, and a second plurality of small sensor electrodes capacitively coupled with the large sensor electrode and conductively coupled by a second set of routing traces to a second set of conductors in a second edge region. The first set of routing traces is located in a first routing channel and the second set of routing traces is located in a second routing channel, where the first and second routing channels are located along different sides of the large sensor electrode.

An example apparatus includes a sensing area including a sensor matrix, a first conductor and a second conductor. The first conductor is coupled to a first sensor of the sensor matrix and is configured to be coupled to a sensing module. The second conductor is coupled to a second sensor of the sensor matrix and is configured to be coupled to the sensing module. In embodiments, the first sensor consumes a first area, the second sensor and a length of the first conductor reside within a second area that is smaller than or equal to the first area consumed by the first sensor, and the length of the first conductor is routed between an edge of the sensing area and the second sensor.

Apparatuses and methods of adaptive resolution circuits are described. One apparatus includes an input node coupled to a capacitance sense pin coupled to an electrode of a sense array and a capacitance-sensing circuit coupled to the input node and comprising an integrator configured to measure a capacitance with a first resolution. An adaptive resolution circuit is coupled to the capacitance-sensing circuit and the input node and is configured to selectively modify an integration capacitance of the integrator to set the integrator to measure the capacitance with a second resolution.

Embodiments of a capacitive sensor array may comprise a large sensor electrode and a plurality of small sensor electrodes, including a first small sensor electrode, a second small sensor electrode, and a third small sensor electrode. The large sensor electrode and the plurality of small sensor electrodes may be formed from a single layer of conductive material. The first small sensor electrode may be located on the same lateral side of the large sensor electrode as the second small sensor electrode, may be consecutive with the second small sensor electrode in a spatial order of the small sensor electrodes along a longitudinal axis of the large sensor electrode, and may be located on an opposite lateral side of the large sensor electrode from the third small sensor electrode. For each small sensor electrode of the plurality of small sensor electrodes, at least a portion of the small sensor electrode may be located between two interior points of the large sensor electrode.
