A belt sander for sanding a workpiece and defining a center of gravity within a first plane. The belt sander includes a housing, a handle defining a second plane, and a drive unit disposed within the housing. The drive unit includes a motor disposed adjacent a first sidewall of the housing, a pulley system disposed adjacent a second sidewall of the housing opposite the first sidewall, and a transmission disposed between the motor and the pulley system. The belt sander further includes a belt drive system driven by the drive unit and including a drive wheel, a driven wheel, and a platen. The platen defines a third plane extending perpendicular therefrom. The transmission and pulley system are disposed on one side of the first plane and the motor is disposed on an opposite side of the first plane. The motor is intersected by the second and third planes.

Belt sander

A reciprocating saw includes a housing assembly and a motor positioned within the housing assembly. The motor includes a pinion. A drive mechanism is positioned within the housing assembly and includes a gear driven by the pinion, a hub coupled to the gear, a spindle, and a connecting rod. A clutch assembly is coupled to the drive mechanism to selectively transmit drive force form the gear to the hub. The clutch assembly includes a first disk coupled to the gear, a second disk coupled to the hub, a biasing member, and a threaded fastener. The biasing member is positioned between the hub and the gear to bias the first and second disks into frictional engagement. The threaded fastener extends through the gear and threadably engages the hub to couple the hub to the gear. Tightening the threaded fastener pulls the hub toward the gear to preload the biasing member.

Reciprocating saw

A bit retention assembly, for securing a tool bit to a spindle of a rotary hammer, includes a plurality of detent members movable in unison from a locking position to an insertion position in response to insertion of the tool bit within the spindle, a biasing member configured to bias the detent members toward the locking position, and a collar movable along the spindle between a first axial position and a second axial position. The collar has an annular wall at least partially defining a pocket. A first end of the biasing member is received within the pocket when the detent members are in the locking position such that the first end of the biasing member is radially constrained by the annular wall.

Bit retention assembly for rotary hammer

A reciprocating saw includes a housing assembly, a motor, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a gear coupled to and driven by a pinion of the motor for rotation about a first axis. The gear is vertically-oriented within the housing assembly and has an outer periphery. The drive mechanism also includes a spindle reciprocatable relative to the housing assembly, a connecting rod having a first end coupled to the gear and a second end coupled to the spindle to transmit rotation of the gear into reciprocation of the spindle, and a counterweight rotatably coupled to the housing assembly for rotation about the first axis within the outer periphery of the gear. The counterweight is also coupled to the first end of the connecting rod such that the counterweight is moved in a substantially opposite direction than the spindle to counterbalance reciprocation of the spindle.

A rotary hammer is adapted to impart axial impacts to a tool bit. The rotary hammer includes a motor, a spindle coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor, and a piston at least partially received within the spindle for reciprocation therein. A crank hub is coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor. The crank hub defines a rotational axis and includes a socket offset from the rotational axis. A pin includes a first portion at least partially received within the socket and a second portion fixed to the piston. The first portion of the pin is both pivotable within the socket and axially displaceable relative to the socket in response to rotation of the crank hub for reciprocating the piston between a forward-most position within the spindle and a rearward-most position within the spindle.

Rotary hammer

A reciprocating saw includes a housing assembly and a motor positioned substantially within the housing assembly. The motor includes a pinion. A drive mechanism is positioned substantially within the housing assembly and includes a gear driven by the pinion, a spindle, and a connecting rod to transmit rotation of the gear into reciprocation of the spindle. A bushing is positioned substantially within the housing assembly about at least a portion of the spindle. The bushing is pivotable relative to the housing assembly to accommodate non-linear rocking motion of the spindle. A seal surrounds a portion of the bushing and includes a first lip extending radially from the bushing and a second lip spaced apart from the first lip and extending radially from the bushing. The second lip is movable relative to the first lip. Both the first lip and the second lip continuously engage the housing assembly when the bushing pivots relative to the housing assembly.

A rotary hammer includes a motor, a spindle coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor, a piston at least partially received within the spindle for reciprocation therein, a striker received within the spindle for reciprocation in response to reciprocation of the piston, and an anvil received within the spindle and positioned between the striker and a tool bit. The rotary hammer also includes a retainer received within the spindle for selectively securing the striker in an idle position in which it is inhibited from reciprocating within the spindle, and an O-ring positioned between the retainer and the spindle. The O-ring is disposed around an outer peripheral surface of the anvil. The O-ring is compressible in response to the striker assuming the idle position. The compressed O-ring imparts a frictional force on the outer peripheral surface of the anvil to decelerate the anvil.

A power tool includes a motor having a can and a shaft extending axially from the can, a gear case having an inner surface that defines an opening, a bearing positioned around a portion of the shaft that extends from the can and at least partially within the opening in the gear case, and a motor mount coupled to the motor. The motor mount includes a flange extending away from the motor. The flange of the motor mount and the inner surface of the gear case axially and laterally locate the motor and the gear case on the bearing.

Motor mount for a power tool

A pipe stand able to support a conduit includes a table having a first surface, supports pivotably coupled to the table for supporting the table in an elevated position with respect to the support surface, and a shelf extending between the supports and positioned between the table and the support surface. At least one of the supports includes an electrical connector, and a power cord is in electrical communication with the electrical connector and connectable to an external power source. The pipe stand includes a first jaw extending from the first surface of the table and shaped to engage a portion of the conduit, and a second jaw a second jaw extending from the first surface of the table and spaced a distance from the first jaw, the second jaw shaped to engage another portion of the conduit. A clamping device is supported by one of the first jaw and the second jaw. The clamping device includes a cord removeably coupled to the table and engageable with the conduit and a winch for biasing the cord with respect to the conduit.
