A package including a flanged tray and a wrapper surrounding it. The tray typically contains a foodstuff such as a pie. The wrapper is formed of a rectangular, unitary blank of paperboard which is folded and wrapped aroung the tray, the wrapper being folded to the form of a tube with the tray therein. The wrapper includes two oppositely located latching flaps (24) whose free edges (28) are curved so as to match the curvature of the tray. The curved or arcuate latching flaps are initially folded downwardly more than 90 degrees from the plane of the blank. Other portions (16, 18) of the blank are bent upwardly along respective transverse fold lines (23), causing the arcuate latching flaps to bow inwardly and beneath the flanges of a tray (32) and contact the tray flanges (34). Portions (16, 18) of the wrapper are then folded beneath and on the sides of the tray and ends (17) are overlapped and glued together to finish the package. If the tray is rectangular instead of round or oval, the free edges (28) of the flaps (24) are straight.

Wrapper for a flanged tray

A paperboard carton formed from a unitary blank of paperboard. A side flap of the carton bottom is overlapped with and sealed to a side flap of the top cover. At least one of these flaps is provided with spaced abseal (adhesion resistant) areas. The interabseal areas are provided with adhesive to seal against the other, overlapping flap. The interabseal areas are bordered by cut lines extending partially through the paperboard, and are preferably embossed so as to be raised from the remaining flap area. The other front and side flaps are conventionally sealed together by an adhesive, such as a heat activated PET coating on the paperboard surface. To effect opening, these two flaps are pulled apart with the adhered together, interabseal are a of one of these flaps delaminating by virtue of the cut lines, the latter extending completely through the PET coating.

Easily openable paperboard carton for foodstuffs

A paperboard tray and unitary blank for forming it. Two of the tray blanks may be joined in tandem to form, after erection, a clamshell type carton. The tray is provided with cooperating latching tongues and latching slits to maintain it erected. The specific form of the latching tongues and slits enables the tray sides to tilt outwardly after initial tongue and slit engagement and thus permit stacking. The use of the tongue and slit of this invention also permits tray formation without the need of adhesives, thus permitting safe use of the tray or clamshell carton in serving food, as at the retail level.

Lock set tray

A tube type carton formed from a unitary blank of paperboard and having at each end closure panels defined by a pair of opposed dust flaps and opposed major and minor closure flaps. The major flaps and two opposite side wall panels of the four side panels are trapezoidal. The remaining two opposite side wall panels are square but of different size. A pair of rectangular interior tucking panels joins one edge of the smaller square side wall panel to the shortest edge of one of the two opposite trapezoidal side wall panels, these interior panels being tucked into the interior of the carton. By virtue of the tucking, the cross-section of the tube is changed from rectangular to trapezoidal. The fully erected configuration of the carton is that of a truncated, right, four-sided, rectangular pyramid. The minor flaps, near the interior tucking panels, are each provided with cut-outs on one of their free edges so that adhesive on the major flaps can contact the two dust flaps nearest the interior tucking panels and thus prevent the smaller square side wall panel and that trapezoidal side wall panel joined to it by the tucking panels from moving away from each other due to the resiliency of the paperboard.

Tapered carton and blank for forming it

An openable and reclosable pour spout forming carton formed from a one-piece blank of paperboard. The carton is generally brick shaped and has a sealing fin on its upper surface, the fin defined by two panels sealingly adhered together. This double thickness fin is adhered to the top of the carton by first folding it and then glueing so as to lie flat. One fin forming flap is provided with a tear strip which, after tearing, defines a tuck tab on the flap. The tuck tab, after partial carton dispensing through the pour spout, is placed beneath a tuck edge portion of the other fin forming panel. By this arrangement, the pour spout can be more fully reclosed and thus will inhibit contamination of the carton contents after the initial carton opening, partial contents dispensing, and pour spout reclosing.

Openable and reclosable carton

A one piece blank which may be erected into a tamper evident sleeve for housing a container. The sleeve blank includes hingedly connected top, side, base and attachment panels. The tamper-proof feature of the invention is provided by a retention panel which is pivotally connected to the attachment panel and projects into the interior of the sleeve. The retention panel includes spaced leg projections which are dimensioned to conform and frictionally engage the container in locking orientation.

Tamper-proof sleeve

A container in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped. The front and side walls are provided with severable perforated lines. Upon rupture of the severable lines, a hinged, box-like lid is formed which is reclosable. The container front wall is associated with upstanding L-shaped posts at its upper edge. One surface of each L-shaped post frictionally fits into a respective gap space within the box-like lid, each gap space defined by parallel lid guide flaps carried by the sides of the box-like lid. The container is loaded from one end, with, for example, a plurality of crayons, and then closed to define a package. The container is formed from a single sheet of paperboard.

Flip top carton

A container for cigarettes or other rod-like elements. The container is in the general form of a rectangular parallelepiped. It is formed by bending and folding a single blank of a suitably cut sheet of paperboard, cardboard or other stiff, resilient and foldable material. It carries a boxlike lid hinged along its rear wall. The inner sides of the lid carry lid guide panels, spaced from the lid sides, with the side portions of certain corner posts slidably positioned between the lid sides and the lid guide panels. In a modification, the corner posts and the upper portion of the front of the main body portion of the container are debossed.

Fliptop carton

A paperboard carton has an end structure arranged to prevent sifting out and escape of powdered contents. A first pair of opposed carton panels has opposite major flaps each filling substantially the entire carton end opening and a second pair of opposed panels has opposite minor flaps each of which is divided into first and second minor parts. In the closing sequence, the opposite first minor parts are folded over the carton end, one major flap is next folded over, the opposite second minor parts are folded over, and finally the other major flap is folded over all. One or more flaps may be embossed for better contact and glue is applied to seal the structure.

Anti-sift carton

A knock-down paperboard container and blank for forming it. The container has a recessed bottom whose four corners are provided with webs glued to the container ends. The carton exhibits special utility in the packaging of grease laden foodstuffs such as fried chicken. Both the recessed bottom and its webbed corners inhibit dripping of grease from the container onto clothing and tables. The knock down capability is useful in fast food retail outlets where the collapsed containers are rapidly erectable for the reception and dispensing of foodstuffs.

Collapsible container

A paperboard container and blank therefor. The container is in the form of a tube leaving a recessed bottom closure, the closure defined by bottom-forming panels, the bottom closure having an opening frictionally engaging the threaded end of a light bulb. The container top has a plurality of inwardly folding top closure panels, each formed from a hinged pair of panels. The top closure panels exhibit; in one form of the container, a snap action when closed, to thereby further inhibit accidental opening of the top closure prior to intended removal of the light bulb. When the top closure panels are snapped inwardly and downwardly, the upper portion of the container becomes tapered, permitting it to fit into the recessed bottom of a similar container stacked thereon. The ends of top closure panels conform to the shape of the upper end of the light bulb, thus resiliently supporting it at a plurality of angularly spaced points. In another form of the container, its uppermost portion slopes upwardly, thereby facilitating nesting with a container having a similarly shaped bottom closure.
