A method, performed by an on-board diagnostic (OBD) interface coupled to a diagnostic port of a vehicle, including receiving, via a wireless network, a message containing text from a user device associated with a user; converting the text contained in the message into an audio file that corresponds to an audio reminder; detecting a key-on event for the vehicle; establishing, responsive to the key-on event, a first wireless connection to a speaker device located in the vehicle; sending, via the first wireless connection, a notification to the speaker device that the audio reminder is pending; terminating, after the notification is sent, the first wireless connection; establishing a second wireless connection to the speaker device; and transferring the audio file to the speaker device via the second wireless connection.

Using a vehicle's on-board diagnostic (OBD) system for audio reminders

A device may detect occurrence of an event. The device may receive energy storage information and solar charging information. The energy storage information may be associated with an energy storage component. The solar charging information may be associated with a solar array. The energy storage information and the solar charging information may be received based on the occurrence of the event. The device may set, based on at least one of the energy storage information or the solar charging information, a time value and/or a radio operation state. The device may determine, based on the time value, to determine location information. The device may determine location information. The device may transmit the location information based on the radio operation state.

Energy storage management in solar-powered tracking devices

A device may receive a first type of measurement associated with a vehicle and receive a second type of measurement associated with a power source connected to the vehicle. The second type of measurement may be different than the first type of measurement. The device may determine a key-on or a key-off status of the vehicle based on the first type of measurement and the second type of measurement without communicating with a vehicle diagnostic system associated with the vehicle. The key-off status may correspond to an engine of the vehicle being powered off and the key-on status may correspond to the engine of the vehicle being powered on. The device may initiate communications with the vehicle diagnostic system based on determining the key-on status.
