A spray valve is disclosed for controlling and directing the flow of a fluid. The spray valve includes an integral trigger/waterway, that is movable between an open and a closed position, and a non-movable fluid seal that plugs the end of the waterway to prevent the flow of fluid. A spring normally biases the trigger to the closed position. The force needed to activate the trigger is substantially independent of the water pressure flow and is defined almost exclusively by the force needed to compress the spring. The spray valve assembly is held together by an integral snap-fit construction, eliminating the need for fasteners such as screws, pins, or the like. The spray valve includes a spray cap that provides a variety of spray patterns. At least one of the bores in the spray cap which is used to produce a coarse spray is also used to produce a mist, so that a conventional bore having a relatively small diameter for producing a mist is not required and the likelihood of clogging is reduced.

An adapter consists of a more or less cylindrical body having a rear outer portion and a front inner portion, projections (or other suitable coupling means) on the rear outer portion for effecting the coupling to an automatic adjusting device, and at least three different recessed configurations located at different depths within the body's front inner portion for mating respectively to at least the three most common types of residential thermostat knobs. The most recessed configuration receives the smallest such knob, which is of the 'lever' type. The middle configuration is a circular ring of inwardly projecting teeth for engaging the intermediate size 'serrated' type of knob. The least recessed configuration is of an internal bevelled shape for receiving the largest such knob, namely the 'bevel' knob. These various recessed configurations are so located and dimensioned with respect to the body of the adaptor to allow each type of knob to reach and mate with its corresponding recessed configuration.

An adjustable safety spectacle including a frame member including a nose bridge and lens supporting sections extending from the nose bridge and with the lens supporting sections including outwardly extending arm portions, a pair of adjustable length temple members including telescoping side arms, individual means coupled to the outwardly extending arm portions of the frame member and the temple members for individually pivotably mounting the temple members to extend from the outwardly extending arm portions, each temple member formed with an interior channel having a slot on a bottom wall and with substantially closed top and side walls and including an interior projection into the channel and with each side arm including a ratchet portion engaging the interior projection for providing a plurality of fixed telescoping positions and each individual means including a pair of pin members and a pair of openings for receiving the pin members and with one opening receiving one pin member for pivotable movement and with the other opening elongated and with a plurality of fixed positions and with the other opening receiving the other pin member for sliding movement to any one of the fixed positions for producing a pivoting of the individual temple members about the one pin member.

Water temperature sensors in the form of thermisters are in physical thermal contact with the inlet and outlet pipes of a water heater and may be surrounded by insulating material to make them more insensitive to the ambient air temperature and more sensitive to the temperature of the respective water pipes and the water contained therein. These two thermisters are connected in a bridge circuit connected to an operational amplifier whose output will be of a given polarity only if the measured temperature difference exceeds a predetermined value. The operational amplifier's output is then used to adjust the effective thermostatic setting of the hot water heater in a two-valued control arrangement. Alternatively, each of the two water temperature sensors may assume a purely mechanical form, such as an enclosed volume of fluid or plastic material operating a bellows or piston arrangement, so that at higher temperatures the volume increases and the bellows or piston moves in one direction while at lower temperatures, the volume decreases, and the bellows or piston moves in an opposite direction. If two such mechanical sensor arrangements are connected to work in opposition to one another through appropriate spring linkages, the resultant mechanical movement is proportional to the difference in sensor temperatures and adjusts the thermostat setting of the heater in a proportional form of control.

Animal food dispensing apparatus is provided which includes a tray with a plurality of food receptacles therein, upper openings generally similar in configuration, and a cover positioned over the tray with an aperture generally like the receptacle openings in configuration and size. The cover is movable among a plurality of successive positions in each of which the cover aperture is in general registration with a receptacle opening, the cover being indexed among these positions by indexing apparatus. Apparatus is provided for selective delivery of liquid to the receptacles.
