Techniques to facilitate feature licensing of industrial devices employed in an industrial automation environment are disclosed herein. In at least one implementation, a security certificate for an industrial device is provisioned based on a first private key associated with the industrial device, wherein the first private key is securely stored in a hardware root of trust within the industrial device. A device information package for the industrial device is generated based on the security certificate, wherein the device information package is encrypted with a first public key paired with the first private key and signed by a certificate authority using a second private key. The device information package is provided to the industrial device, wherein the industrial device is configured to validate the device information package using a second public key paired with the second private key and decrypt the device information package with the first private key.

Cryptographic feature licensing

A system with multiple processing domains sharing a memory resource accessed via a shared memory controller detects a memory error. As data is written to the shared memory resource, each processing domain generates a diagnostic code as a function of the data, the memory address for the data, and of a unique identifier corresponding to the processing domain. The diagnostic code is stored with the data for verification when the data is read back. As the data is read back, the processing domain separates the diagnostic code from the data being read and generates another diagnostic code in the same manner as the original diagnostic code. The other diagnostic code is compared to the initial diagnostic code. If both diagnostic codes are the same, the processing domain can be confident that the data read from the shared memory resource is the same as the data that was originally written.

Method and apparatus for memory error detection

A device is configured to be operable in a plurality of network environments. A number of different configurations are available to be set on the device, where a first configuration enables operation on a first network, and a second configuration enables operation on a second, disparate, network. A plurality of external ports in conjunction with a multiplexer switch, network switch, internal CPU, external CPU, routing links, etc., can be combined to facilitate multiple configurations for the device. The device is suitable for incorporation into a human machine interface, for application in an industrial processing operation. Receive port information can be incorporated into a data frame to facilitate identification of an external port associated with the reception of the data frame. Applicable networks include linear topology, ring topology, star topology, Ethernet, ROCKWELL NEO, EtherNet/IP, one or more LANs, etc. Configuration can be via a USB device or an interface.
