A method for controlling the saturation level of gas in a liquid discharge includes obtaining temperature and pressure measurements of a solvent in a mixing vessel and obtaining a pressure measurement of a source feedstock in a feedstock tank, correlating the temperature and pressure measurements of the solvent to baseline data to generate a theoretical uptake rate for the source feedstock into the solvent and a theoretical flow rate of the source feedstock into the mixing vessel, and determining a required opening setting for a feedstock valve in the feedstock input line in order to achieve a desired liquid displacement in the mixing vessel. The method includes determining an uptake duration and achieving an uptake displacement equivalent to the reverse of the desired liquid displacement. The method includes generating a valve operating control law for how the feedstock valve should function in a cycle.

Systems and methods for gas disposal

A discharge system includes a mixing vessel and a feedstock input in fluid communication with the mixing vessel. A solvent input is in fluid communication with the mixing vessel. A discharge output is in fluid communication with an outlet of the mixing vessel to discharge effluent. A method for generating turbulence on a liquid surface within a discharge system includes supplying a mixing vessel with feedstock fluid and solvent fluid to generate a liquid mixture and a gas pocket in the mixing vessel. The method includes supplying an impinging solvent fluid through a nozzle extending from a first end of the mixing vessel to generate a roiling surface at an interface between the gas pocket and the liquid mixture and permit uptake of gas from the gas pocket into the liquid mixture.

An article includes a closed-environment air purification system that has a purifier through which air can be recirculated. The purifier is capable at a temperature of equal or less than 35&#xb0; C. of converting hydrogen in the air to water and converting carbon monoxide in the air to carbon dioxide. The purifier has a reactor bed that includes media comprised of support particles and a metal catalyst disposed on the support particles.

Closed-environment air purification system

A hydrocarbon burner for an enclosed environment includes a heat exchanger having a first heat exchanger inlet connected to an inlet of the hydrocarbon burner and a first heat exchanger outlet connected to a heater, and a second heat exchanger inlet connected to a reactor outlet and a second heat exchanger outlet connected to an outlet of the hydrocarbon burner. A reactor includes a reactor inlet, the reactor outlet, and a catalyst mixture disposed in a reactor bed between the reactor inlet and the reactor outlet. The heater connects the first heat exchanger outlet to the reactor inlet. The reactor is a low temperature reactor configured to convert at least one hydrocarbon to at least one of H2O and CO2.

Reduced temperature hydrocarbon burner for enclosed environments

A fluid extraction apparatus includes a first chamber within which waste material is configured to be disposed and a second chamber having a vacuum source interface. The first chamber may be in selective fluid communication with the second chamber. In various embodiments, the fluid extraction apparatus further includes an intermediate valve disposed on a conduit extending between the first chamber and the second chamber, wherein the intermediate valve is selectively actuatable to control the selective fluid communication. In various embodiments, the selective fluid communication between the first chamber and the second chamber is exclusively via the intermediate valve and the conduit.

A retention screen for use in an adsorption canister has outer edges including a seal groove that form a relatively thick portion and a plurality of support pad portions also formed to be relatively thick and relatively thin connecting web portions connecting the outer edge to the support pad portions. The connecting web portions also connect the support pad portions to each other. The retention screen is generally planar. The edge portions and the support pad portions are thicker than the connecting web portions. An adsorption system and a method of manufacture are also disclosed.

A fluid transfer coupling is described that includes first and second connectable coupling members that together contain a sealed interior space when connected. A gas or steam purge inlet and a purge outlet are disposed in fluid communication with the sealed interior space for purging potential contaminants out of the interior space. The coupling also includes a vacuum port in fluid communication with the sealed interior space for drawing a vacuum on the sealed interior space and optionally testing the space for an adequate seal. The first coupling member includes a first fluid transfer conduit and the second coupling member includes a second fluid transfer conduit. The first and second fluid transfer conduits are positioned such that they can be connected together within the sealed interior space when the first and second coupling members are connected.

A system has a fuel cell with an anode, a membrane, and a cathode. A source of fuel passes along the anode and a source of an oxygen containing gas passes along the cathode. A downstream line captures fuel downstream of the anode and a separator separates impurities from the fuel on the downstream line, and recirculates fuel downstream of the separator for passage across the anode. A method of mixing air with an oxygen concentrated gas is also disclosed.

A method of operating a fuel cell in a vehicle includes the steps of initially charging a waste tank with a gas that is readily absorbable in water. A supply of fuel is passed across one electrode in a fuel cell, and a supply of oxygen containing gas across another electrode generating water from operation of the fuel cell. The water is delivered into the tank. A vehicle is also disclosed.
