A method for manufacturing a paper layer having a printed pattern, to be used in the manufacturing of panels may involve providing the paper layer with a treatment, including providing the paper layer with an ink receiving substance. The treated paper layer may be provided with at least a portion of the printed pattern. Providing the portion of the printed pattern may involve depositing pigment containing inks on the treated paper layer using a digital inkjet printer. The pigment containing inks may be water-based. The digital inkjet printer may include print heads with nozzles. The depositing may involve firing droplets of pigment containing inks from the nozzles onto the treated paper layer. The paper layer may be fed from a roll, printed upon, and rolled back up again.

The method may involve providing the paper layer with an inkjet receiver coating by transporting the paper layer relative to a coater in a coating direction. The coated paper layer may be provided with at least a portion of the printed pattern using a digital inkjet printer that includes a housing containing print heads. Providing the printed pattern may involve using water based pigment containing inks. The printed pattern may include a wood motif having wood nerves extending generally in a nerve direction substantially corresponding to the coating direction. Providing the printed pattern may involve a relative motion between the digital inkjet printer and the paper layer during a printing operation in a printing direction substantially corresponding or substantially opposite to the coating direction. The paper layer may be maintained flat inside the housing, or the minimum radius over which the paper layer is bent inside the housing may be larger than 25 centimeters. The paper layer may be fed from a roll, printed upon, and rolled back up again. The inkjet receiver coating may be obtained from a liquid substance that is deposited on the paper layer. The liquid substance may have a viscosity of 10 to 75 seconds Din cup 4 at 20° C.

A floor panel includes a substrate, a decorative layer and a transparent component. The decorative layer is positioned between the substrate and the transparent component. At least one of the substrates, the decorative layer and the transparent component has a thermoplastic synthetic material. The transparent component has an upper surface opposite the decorative layer. The floor panel further includes an enhancement component provided on the upper surface of the transparent component. A thickness of the enhancement component varies along a cross section of the floor panel.

A method is provided for manufacturing a panel. The method may involve supplying a substrate having an upper side. A layer may be provided onto the upper side. The upper side may be irradiated so as to cure at least a part of the layer by irradiation, hence forming the panel. The layer may include a liquid coating on substantially the entire upper side and a substance which is digitally printed locally on the upper side. The substance and the liquid coating may cooperate such that either (1) the coating and the substance react with each other, whereas the substance is a liquid that is printed on the upper side before the coating is applied and wherein the substance and the coating have different surface tensions, or (2) the coating is non-curable or only curable to a limited extent by the irradiation, whereas the substance makes the coating curable by the irradiation at locations where they meet each other.

A method may be provided for manufacturing a panel of the type having a support and a top layer. The top layer may have a printed motif and a wear layer disposed above the motif. The wear layer may be fabricated from PVC. The top layer may include an inkjet receiving layer that has less than 10% by weight of water absorbing substances. The method may involve providing a printing substrate, providing the printing substrate with the inkjet receiving layer, and digitally inkjet printing the motif with a set of water based inks. The digital inkjet printing may involve one or more printing operations. Each of the printing operations may be dedicated to print one color. The method may involve one or more ink drying steps. Each of the drying steps may be performed after performing one or more respective printing operations.

Sheet material includes at least two layers of material, wherein a first layer of material forms more than half the thickness of the sheet material and is mainly built up from wood particles glued by means of a first binder and pressed. The first binder is thermosetting, wherein the second layer of material is present on the surface of the aforementioned sheet material and is mainly built up from particulate particles glued by a second binder and pressed. The second binder is thermoplastic and/or elastomeric.
