A seat adjustment mechanism for a chair includes a first handle which controls the height of the seat above a surface supporting the chair. A second handle allows the user to selectively lock the seat at a user selected angle relative to the supporting surface. As the seat is tilted into a desired position, the seat adjustment mechanism provides limited horizontal and vertical movement of the seat to maintain the chair in an ergonomically correct position. The mechanism includes a housing or enclosure adapted for connection to a pedestal, and a seat bracket for mounting to the underside of the seat. An intermediate bracket is pivotably mounted to the lower enclosure. One end of the seat mounting bracket is pivotably connected to an end of the intermediate bracket, and the other end of the seat bracket is interconnected with the lower enclosure via a link arrangement. A selectively operable locking mechanism is interconnected between the lower enclosure and the intermediate bracket, for selectively preventing and allowing angular movement of the intermediate bracket relative to the lower enclosure, to lock the seat in a predetermined angular position or to enable the seat to pivot relative to the pedestal.

A mechanical device for synchronous movement of a seat and a backrest of a chair comprising a first supporting bracket which is associated with a central column which protrudes from a rotating base and is pivoted transversely to an end of a second fixing bracket for the seat. The second bracket cooperates with two pairs of slotted laminar elements which are pivoted to the first bracket. A third anchoring bracket for the backrest is also provided which is pivoted to the first bracket and to a pair of linkages which are in turn pivoted to the second bracket. Moreover, a piston is present between the third and first brackets and a pair of springs is present between the first and second brackets.

Safety device for mechanisms for lifting the back of a chair or armchair

A mechanism for adjusting the height of a back relative to a seat in a seating assembly having a support member interconnecting the seat and the back. A recess is formed in an upright portion of the support member, and a toothed rack is secured within the recess. The upright portion of the support member is slidably engageable with a box-like unit secured to the back, and an engagement member is mounted to the box-like unit and disposed within the recess formed in the support member upright portion. The engagement member includes engagement structure selectively engageable with certain of the rack teeth to fix the position of the back relative to the support member. A biasing element urges the engagement member to an engagement position in which the engagement structure is engaged with certain of the one or more teeth. The biasing element also functions to retain the engagement member in a disengaged position when the back is fully raised, for enabling the back to be lowered without engagement of the engagement structure with the rack teeth. Release structure is engageable with the engagement member when the back is fully lowered so as to disengage the engagement member from the biasing element in preparation for subsequent positioning of the back by raising the back relative to the seat.

Mechanism to adjust the height of a back support of a chair

A mechanical device for the movement and selective locking of a chair and for controlling a gas piston. The mechanical device comprises a first arm and a second arm spaced apart from the first arm which are connectable to the chair. A pivoting pin extends between and is connected to the first arm and the second arm. A boxlike element including a first and second aperture is pivotally connected to the pivoting pin such that the arms may selectively pivot with respect to the boxlike element. A molding box is connected to the pivoting pin and a resilient member engages the molding box and the boxlike element. A shaft extends through the first and second apertures in the boxlike element and is selectively positionable therein to selectively lock the position of the molding box relative to the boxlike element. Rotation of the shaft controls the operation of the gas piston.
