A method and arrangement for exchanging service and RAN information. In a communication network a service providing element is enabled to adapt delivery of a service based on RAN-related parameters. The communication network comprises a RAN (Radio Access Network) node, a core network node, and the service providing element. The RAN node obtains a RAN-related parameter and sends the RAN-related parameter to the service providing element via the core network node. The core network node receives the RAN-related parameter from the RAN node, re-structures the RAN-related parameter into a data structure readable by the service providing element, and sends the re-structured RAN-related parameter to the service providing element. The service providing element is configured to receive the RAN-related parameter, and adapt a service delivery parameter based on the RAN-related parameter.

Method and device for exchanging signalling information

The embodiments herein relate to a method in a first network node for connecting nodes in a communications network. The first network node receives, from a RAN node, information indicating the RAN node and a communications resource which the at least one RAN node is responsible for. The first network node receives, from a second network node, a request for information indicating a serving RAN node which serves a communications resource. The communications resource served by the serving RAN node is one of the communications resource which the received information indicates. The first network node identifies the serving RAN node based on the received information and request. The first network node establishes a connection between the identified serving RAN node and the second network node.

Procedure and node for interconnecting RAN and service layer entities

A method of scheduling paging messages in a communications network comprises the steps of receiving new paging messages to be scheduled, scheduling the paging messages on a first come first served basis during a first mode of operation, scheduling the paging messages based on priority levels of the paging messages during a second mode of operation, and switching between the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation according to the volume of paging messages being scheduled.

Apparatus and method for scheduling paging messages in a communications network

It is presented a radio network controller assembly for controlling base stations. The radio network controller assembly comprises: a plurality of unit radio network controllers, wherein each unit radio network controller comprises: a set of external interfaces configured for interaction with a core network, base stations and other radio network controllers; and a set of internal interfaces, distinct from the set of external interfaces, configured at least for interaction with peer unit radio network controllers belonging to the radio network controller assembly. The radio network assembly further comprises a database arranged to store configuration data comprising mappings of each base station to one of the plurality of unit radio network controllers. The radio network controller assembly is arranged to use the set of external interfaces for communication with the plurality of base stations, the core network and other radio network controllers external to the radio network controller assembly.

A mobile station assists the wireless network with handover from a first base station to a second base station. The mobile station receives transmissions from the first base station using a first spreading code corresponding to the first base station while receiving signals from at least one other base station. The mobile station determines the relative signal strengths of the signals received from the other base stations and reports the relative signal strengths to the first base station to support handover determinations by the wireless network.

Mobile assisted handover using CDMA

A method and system for facilitating handover in mobile radio communication systems are illustrated. The mobile unit assists in making handover decisions by monitoring the signal strength of control channels transmitted by base stations in neighboring cells. During the handover, the mobile station can receive the same information from and/or transmit the same information to a plurality of base stations to provide diversity combination and improve transmission quality.

In a radio access network () comprising a serving radio network control node () and a drift radio network control node (), a determination is first made that a target cell controlled by the drift radio network control node should be prepared for handover with respect to a user equipment unit (). The target cell is neighbored by a set of neighboring cells, the set of neighboring cells including a first subset of neighboring cells and a second subset of neighboring cells, a handover involving the user equipment unit being permitted for a cell of the first subset but not for a cell of the second subset. In accordance with the determination, a message including a filtered list of cells is sent to the user equipment unit, the filtered list of cells including the first subset but not the second subset. The filtered list of cells can comprise, for example, a list of cells for whose frequencies the user equipment unit is to perform measurements. Which nodes perform the actions of (1) determining an allowed area(s) for the user equipment unit; and (2) preparing the filtered list of cells using the allowed area(s) depends on which of various alternative implementations are utilized.

Handover in a shared radio access network environment using subscriber-dependent neighbor cell lists

A base station synchronized Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) System with a discontinuous control channel carrier is disclosed. Control channels are planned in a time reuse, overlaying the ordinary frequency reuse. Different base stations are allocated different timeslots for control channel transmissions. The control channels are allocated timeslots in a slot hopping fashion, such that transmissions from different base stations are detected by only monitoring one timeslot. Thus, MAHO measurements are possible on all neighbors, and no traffic allocation will continuously coincide with control channel transmissions from certain base stations.

Methods and apparatus for performing slot hopping of logical control channels in wireless communications systems

A packet data communication system uses an USF (Uplink State Flag) transmitted on the downlink and interleaved with downlink data, to schedule traffic on the uplink for one or several mobile users utilizing the same physical channel. The USF indication is made variable and defined in the control signaling at setup of a packet transmission. An USF indicates to a mobile that one or several consecutive radio blocks is reserved for uplink transmission from a specific mobile. The mobile does not have to receive the USF during the remaining period defined by the number of radio blocks scheduled. The solution is especially advantageous in combination with adaptive antennas when all radio blocks on the downlink transmissions do not have to be broadcast to all users on a certain channel.

Method for variable block scheduling indication by an uplink state flag in a packet data communication system

A communications system in which information is transmitted in successive time slots grouped into a plurality of superframes which are, in turn, grouped into a plurality of hyperframes. A remote station is assigned to one of the time slots in each of the superframes for paging the remote station, each hyperframe including at least two superframes, and the information sent in the assigned time slot in one superframe in each hyperframe is repeated in the assigned time slot in the other superframe(s) in each hyperframe. Each superframe can include a plurality of time slots used for sending paging messages to remote stations, grouped into a plurality of successive paging frames, and the time slot to which the remote station is assigned is included once in every paging frame. Also, each superframe may include time slots comprising a logical channel for broadcast control information and time slots comprising a logical paging channel. Information sent in the assigned time slot may direct the remote station to read the broadcast control information, and the information may have been encoded according to an error correcting code and include a plurality of bits having polarities that are inverses of cyclic redundancy check bits produced by the encoding. Also, the broadcast control information may comprise special messages that are included in respective time slots comprising a logical special message channel, the time slots of the special message channel may be grouped in successive SMS frames, and the SMS frames may be synchronized to start with a start of a superframe.
