The plural cylinders comprising a printing unit in a rotary printing press, are mounted for synchronous rotation within a single frame structure, aligned under the impression cylinder, such that the frame structure including the cylinders is removably securable to the printing press as a cassette unit. Each cylinder is rotatably journalled within a bearing housing, which is displaceable on a vertical bearing rail. A hydraulic cylinder is disposed under the lowermost bearing housing for lifting and lowering the cylinders, to selectively raise them into engagement or lower them out of engagement.

A rotary printing press built on a frame structure in which printing units, normally mounted on a floor foundation, are instead suspended from the frame structure to minimize clutter in the vicinity of the printing press and simplify the operation of changing the printing units when a printing run is complete.
