Atop the impeller are ancillary vanes, the same provided for pumping cooling liquid to the centrifugal pump motor cooling system. The liquid is conveyed through a narrow slot, vertically, which obtains between an annulus of the pump housing and an impeller extension. Grooves, contiguous with inner tips of the ancillary vanes, and formed in the extension, widen the slot, cyclically, coincident with rotation of the impeller, and hasten deaeration of air bubbles which exist, at start-up, between the impeller and the pump housing.

Centrifugal pump impeller, and in combination with a centrifugal pump

The stator housing of an electric motor has its central, rotary axis offset from, and parallel with, the longitudinal axis of its enclosing casing. The housing and casing define a cooling liquid chamber therebetween which, due to the offset axes, define the chamber of different widths. A wall, of arcuate configuration is joined to the casing to render the chamber of uniform width thereabout and therealong, and to form a separate, lateral compartment for conduits for conducting cooling liquid into the chamber.

Motor and cooling means therefor

A rotary joint having a non rotary housing surrounding a rotating shaft and being sealed by a mechanical seal. Monitoring impulses are transmitted by hydraulic fluid which is transported between the housing and the shaft by means of a distribution socket. The socket is arranged so that a number of column seals are formed between the shaft and the socket. The apparatus is supported by two prestressed, reversed roller bearings.
