A method for detecting an obstacle in front of a vehicle using a radar sensor. In the method, the radar sensor monitors a monitoring area in front of the vehicle, a classification of an object detected by the radar sensor in the monitoring area being performed, the monitoring area being divided into monitoring subareas and a first classification rule being used for classification for a first monitoring subarea and a second classification rule being used for classification for a second monitoring subarea.

A device for site-specific traffic analysis includes: a radar sensor at a traffic space; and an evaluation unit configured to (i) ascertain object trajectories from chronological sequences of object positions of respective objects detected by the radar sensor and moving in the traffic space, (ii) identify the location of at least one traffic path based on a concentration of object trajectories, and (iii) assign further detected objects to a respective traffic path whose location has been identified.

In a method for identifying a danger zone to be monitored at a grade crossing, the following are performed: at least one radar sensor is situated at the danger zone; object trajectories from sequences over time of object positions of respective objects moving through the danger zone are ascertained by the radar sensor; the position of at least one traffic path is identified with the aid of an accumulation of object trajectories; the positions of barrier straight lines are ascertained with the aid of radar reflections of the closed barriers; and the danger zone is determined by linking information on the identified position of the at least one traffic path with information on the ascertained position of the barrier straight lines.

Danger zone monitoring at a grade crossing

A method, and corresponding radar system, for calibrating a radar sensor, including: placing at least one reference object at a predetermined position in the field of view of the radar sensor; sensing an estimated position of the at least one reference object by way of the radar sensor; calculating a correction value for the position of the at least one reference object based on the predetermined position of the at least one reference object and on the estimated position, sensed by the radar sensor, of the at least one reference object; and applying the calculated correction value to estimated positions, sensed by the radar sensor, of further objects in the field of view of the radar sensor.

In a method for traffic-dependent output of a control signal for at least one of a barrier and a traffic light signal at a grade crossing, a radar sensor device detects motions of traffic objects over a street traffic area of the grade crossing, a control signal is emitted to a control unit for the barrier and/or for the traffic light signal situated on the inflow side of the grade crossing, using a lead time before an expected time of arrival of a train at the grade crossing, and the lead time is determined with the aid of a curve over time of the detected motions of the traffic objects, the lead time for a slow-moving traffic being greater than for a more rapidly flowing, unimpeded traffic.
