A dual curable composition is provided, comprising a compound represented by formula (I):(acrylate)-(A)-(silane)&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)in which a and b are identical or different and are each represented by an integer greater than or equal to 1; and wherein the dual curable composition is radiation curable and/or moisture curable. The moiety A comprises at least one of an aliphatic hydrocarbon, a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, an aryl moiety, an ether, an ester, an amide, a urethane, a urea, a hydroxyl group-containing organic moiety, an acrylic oligomer, an epoxy oligomer, a urethane oligomer, a polyester oligomer, or mixtures thereof, and the dual curable composition has a molecular weight greater than or equal to 300.

Dual curable composition

Corrosion-resistant, self-priming coatings that are curable by ultraviolet energy and methods for coating surfaces using such coatings have been provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a method for coating a surface includes formulating a chromium-free, self-priming coating, applying the chromium-free, self-priming coating to the surface, and curing the chromium-free, self-priming coating with ultraviolet light.

In a preferred embodiment, a method is provided to locate a person, an animal, or a material asset, comprising providing in contact with the person, animal, or material asset, at least two signaling units in communicating proximity, wherein at least one signaling unit is small and hidden and securely attached to the person, animal, or material asset, and the signaling units having means for identifying the location of the signaling units to a monitoring station; activating means for identifying the location of the signaling units by referencing the global positioning satellite (GPS) system; and notifying the monitoring station of said geographic location.

In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a label containing a substrate layer, and a security coating on at least one side of the substrate layer containing: from about 50% to about 99.999% by weight of a film forming material, and from about 0.001 % to about 5% by weight of at least one taggant compound, wherein the taggant compound is substantially uniformly dispersed within the film forming material. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of authenticating a product, involving: affixing a label to the product, the label containing a substrate layer, and a security coating on at least one side of the substrate layer containing: from about 50% to about 99.999% by weight of a film forming material, and from about 0.001% to about 5% by weight of at least one taggant compound, wherein the taggant compound emits light of a known wavelength after irradiated with light of a first wavelength; irradiating the product with light of the first wavelength; determining whether or not the product emits light of the known wavelength; and authenticating the product if the wavelength of the light emitted by the product is substantially the same as the known wavelength.

Security coatings for label materials

A radiation-curable coating composition is described which comprises: (A) from about 60% to about 99% by weight of at least one polyfunctional acrylate monomer containing at least one internal flexible unit; (B) from about 1% to about 30% by weight of at least one other reactive vinyl or unsaturated monomer provided the reactive monomer is not the same as the monomer of (A) or (C); (C) from 0.01% to about 10% by weight of at least one organopolysiloxane containing one or more groups which are reactive toward free radical polymerization; and (D) from about 0% to about 10% by weight of at least one photoinitiator. In a preferred embodiment, the reactive vinyl monomer (B) is selected from the group consisting of vinyl ethers, mono- or polyfunctional acrylate monomers or oligomers, and mixtures thereof. A method of coating a substrate utilizing the radiation-curable release coating compositions of the present invention, and a substrate coated in accordance with the method of the invention are also described.

Radiation-curable release coating compositions

A radiation-curable coating composition is described which comprises (A) from about 70% to about 99% by weight of at least one polyfunctional acrylate monomer containing at least one internal flexible unit; (B) from about 1% to about 30% by weight of at least one other reactive vinyl or unsaturated monomer provided the reactive vinyl or unsaturated monomer (B) is not the same as the monomer of (A); and (C) from about 0% to about 10% by weight of at least one photoinitiator, provided that the composition is free of methacrylic functionalized colloidal silica. A method of coating a substrate utilizing the radiation-curable compositions of the present invention, and a substrate coated in accordance with the method of the invention are also described.
